Nemo, to use Utorrent you have to go to a torrent site, like www.isohunt.com
Type in what you are looking for in the search bar at the top of the page. When you click on a torrent you want, a 'download' link will appear directly underneath. Click this link and it should automatically open with Utorrent, if it's set as the default torrent program (which it prbly is if you just installed it).

Wow! All the p2p networks are getting a plug!

I'm sorry folks, the Gnutella network is the BEST! They rule! They put all other networks to shame!

I don't really believe that, I just wanted to play. James (aka John), you've got a lot of options here.

>> utorrent has a search program...type your request into the search, and it will automatically pull up torrent pages to find your download. i LOVE this...i get entire discographies with one click.

Thanks Lulu! Next time I'm using the Vista partition I'll try that. I only used utorrent for a few hours, and didn't even notice the search tab. Under linux I use limrewire or GTK-Gnutella and rtorrent.

i like limewire...but i like that with utorrent i can pick which songs i download, out of an entire album. it comes together, as separate songs, with a choice of album art, as well.

I know two way's, but one is kind of a "trick" and is the one I'm using now.... The first is the more obvious... Kazza is loaded with spyware, but there is a version called "Kazza lite" that doesn't include the spyware, but you have to be careful to download the right version as even some versions of "lite" contains spyware. The second way is a cool trick that I'm using right now. For Myspace there is a service called "Project Playlist", which isn't supposed to be a "free download" service, but rather a way to just add more music to your profile, and with it's search engine you can find just about any song you want (as long as it's popular enough that someone has posted a link to it). The trick is that although it's not made to be a download service, when you search a song you get to option to visit the page the song is from. At this point, although the page ITSELF never has a direct link to the song, Project Playlist still keeps a window open up top that lists a direct link to the song. You used to be able to just "Right click and save" to get the song, but they're no longer posting it as an actual link. You can get by that though by having a music player that let's you save the media your listening to like the latest version of Windows Media Player. Then all you have to do is copy and past the link to your browser, then use your Media Player to save the song to your computer! There's probably a lot of other way's to do it too, but that's just the way I'm doing it for now. It may not be as satisfying as say, watching 10 songs get downloaded at once using a peer to peer, but it's surprisingly fast as your usually downloading directly from file storage servers instead of some strangers "somewhat iffy" connection. Hope this helps!

Yet another method - a web-based torrent down loader. For most people, its better to install your own torrent software (like utorrent) - but if that poses a problem for any reason, there is always:

utorrent's the best torrent program I've used so far...went slow as crap at first though, had to port forward and change a bunch of other settings and values, speed is way higher now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkQtI_xLFPo (<- very useful tutorial to optimize utorrent's performance, plus port forwarding if you can't get the green icon to appear.

The patch can work wonders in some cases, or in others cause problems if the speed goes to high.
**some virus programs also pick up the patch to be a virus because it changes port settings and renames files, ignore it, unless you feel as if the port range increase caused problems. if you're comfortable with you're current speed, most likely you don't need to make much changes. I had to because of my router and to bypass certain values in the windows service packs.

the site you get the patch from, read all the stuff first. It's intended for certain situations. Not all users need it. If I remember correctly, its intended for people who have their ports limited due to the updates of the windows service packs.

speed went from 100kbs range, to 300-500kbs and up on average, in my case the changes made a huge difference.

I just posted the optimize link because some people hate torrent programs and say they're too slow. For some people, their computer and connection is already set to be compatible with such programs, but other computers and connections such as mines, from the get go weren't compatible. so you gotta configure it.
