This is a piece for violin and piano I've written for the Hillary Hahn composition contest. I'd appreciate you input, feedback, how it can be improved, suggest a title, etc. (this is just a midi demo, sadly )

Thanks!

I'm impressed, I like it..

However, I know next to nothing when it boils down to composition; therefore, no clue how to critique it in a way to further aid your cause.

Of all the instruments I could imagine you playing, let alone playing well..?

Dang Jesus, you're just full of surprises. :O

I wish you the best of luck tho. :)

I do play those instruments, but not that well yet. The recording is just a midi demo which is required for the contest. It's ~90 measures long, plus a few repeated sections. I was just hoping for general impressions and suggestions. I don't expect everyone to know the technical aspects of composition.

You should check out the rest of the stuff on my channel too. You'd dig it. smokin drinker

First, let me say, that you know, I am a HUGE fan of your music.smitten

And, of course, as a musician, I do feel MORE than qualified, to give an educated opinion, of your music. I have spent my entire life, in music.I sang, before I ever talked.surprisedTrue story.

Its all brilliant, Matvei!flowers

I especially love all the "Summer Concerto" selections.

A name for this piece is easy.

"The Ride", or " A Journey", or "Twisted" or "Butterflies", or even, "Wind".

Something along those lines.

Why?

Because that is trulywhat this piece of music, does.

It flies all around, in all different directions, and is beautiful, doing so!

It is a ride, like a roller coaster, a journey, beautiful butterflies, all flying in different directions, or the unpredicting wind.

Its up, its down, its here, its there, its twisting, then its straightening, and the listener doesnt know what to expect next,

except,

that it will be beautiful, and exciting!

And that really is, the beauty, of your music Matvei.

It is totally unpredictable, and exciting, to listen to!

I find myself, wanting to laugh, and cry, and scream in anger, and make love, all, at the same time.

It moves my emotions, that quickly, and that deeply, and that is NOT EASY to do, musically.

Your quote:
I do play those instruments, but not that well yet

I fail to see, where you are not playing these instruments well yet.

You are very humble.

The piano work is beautiful!

The violin, equally as beautiful, and very exciting.

Simply put, "its just all good" Matvei!

Keep doing, what your doing!!

You truly are, a master at it, and the results of your work, are nothing shy, of remarkable.

Once again,

thank you for sharing,

your remarkable music,

with me, and with Mingle.flowerforyou

p.s. I love you!

It is really good and keeps your attention. Somehow it reminds me of music being played during a Chaplin film.

I just can't imagine how much time you must spend. Are you a music student?

I was a music student formally from '97-2008 (music theory/composition, bass, guitar, and piano). All the other instruments I play I taught myself to play. I'm now an independent artist. (I consider myself professional, but different people define it differnetly) I'm saving up money to realize my business plan-my own symphony orchestra. I will eventually be good enough to be a concert soloist as well. As you can see from my youtube channel, I've done a lot of complicated, technical playing and writing. :) I'm currently learning broadening my repertoire to include works by Paganini and other interesting string/wind musicians. I like to record "old" works on modern instruments because it appeals to modern audiences (and it sounds neat shades )

As far as how much time I spend, I alternate-winds one day, strings the next. Usually 2-4 hours a day(more if I can). I also have to fit in exercise, writing/reading, composition, Russian studies, and so forth. When I finish this contest piece I've got a bunch of other things I want to do-probably going to start my 3rd symphony this year. Maybe do a string quartet, finish this fugue for mixed ensemble I started late last year and capriccio for guitar and synth sounds. My to-do list never seems to stop growing! noway shocked
