John, This is your claim:

>>In order for me to perceive, or know myself, I would have to be other than myself. <<

I disagree.

Prove your claim.

Is proof possible when someone does not even understand the principles of the grammar they believe that they think in?

Take my advice, you win the argument.

I do not use Plato grammar and neither do most people. I am a simple person who speaks perfectly plain English as I learned it, but that does not mean I am ignorant or stupid because I don't indulge myself into some age old philosophical ideas of grammar.

Your claim above cannot even be discussed at all until I understand what you mean when you use the term "self."

I just wanted one simple thing from you. I wanted to know what you perceive "self" to be. Is that so difficult a question for you?

Think simplicity.

If I don't know what you mean by "self" or "myself" there is no actual communication at all going on. Your claims and statements may as well be written in Greek.

P.S.

I do not think in "grammer."

I think in thoughts, feelings, pictures, and finally.... words.

I did not read that debate because just a glance showed it was a bit beyond me in my current mindset.

If I were to wax philosophical upon human perfection, then I would say this:

The human condition is to perpetually seek something better. Because of infinite possibilities and the unknown, it is - and always will be - impossible for humanity to attain perfection, for even when he finds it, man will sabotage himself by thinking he can do even better.

I think the "debate" (if that's what you want to call it) was nonsensical and off topic.

You have a very good point though. I think that its called progress.

Forever forward we go... to perfection.

Wabi-sabi (侘寂?) represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete".[1] It is a concept derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence (三法印 sanbōin?), specifically impermanence (無常 mujō?), the other two being suffering (dukkha) and emptiness or absence of self-nature (sunyata).

I am always trying to explain this concept to people. There is the Wikipedia definition. I LOVE THIS CONCEPT. As a girl geek I love human beings ESPECIALLY THEIR FLAWS. That is what makes a person so wonderful. They are NOT A MACHINE. HECK, ERROR MESSAGES MAKE ME HAPPY. I means the code was made by a flawed human. I love it.

I would not dream of trying to explain impermanence or suffering according to buddha to anyone, but were I perfect in mind I would understand and be able to explain

were I perfect in body I would not exist

If you could change yourself in body and mind, looks and age... to be what you would consider to be perfect, what would you do?

If you were a creative spirit, and you could create or manifest the perfect body for you to inhabit what would it look like?

If you could program that body to be able to do things well naturally, what would you program yourself to be able to do?

I WOULD love to be,,,, in look,, bodY,,, mind and heart,,
THE IMAGE OF Jesus and SHOW HIM,,to the WORLD with ALL HIS GIFTS OF HEALING AND SPIRIT..THAT would be the BEST MOST PERFECT PERSON TO BE FOR THE WORLD TO HAVE....
IF,,,I wanted to even TRY to do or make,,,,Perfect...

If I could change my body I think I would like to find out what it would be to have a life without chronic pain, clear vision, and be nice to throw in a good singing voice but having a great "body", when I had it, was more misery tham it was worth. I kind of like passing as average and being part of the heard. Be nice to have an eraser for the dental and general scars and signs of ageing but I don't have any real greif about what I see in the mirror. Now I just see whispers of my family.

I don't know what age I would like. Thirty Six was pretty good but I think 63 might be pretty awesome too if I find a partner. If not I would not mind checking out early. Kind of feel like I have done most of the things I wanted to do. I just hope I can get out of Dodge without becomeing dependent again. I don't fear what comes next.

As far as my mind I would probably stick with what I have. I seem to be able to hold my own in most situations and while it would be nice to have a little better memory maybe read situations as quickly as confidently I did a few years ago I don't think I would want any extraordinary abilities. Well maybe being able to think in a dozen languages fluently would be pretty cool. I would not want to be able to read minds or know any more about the future than I already pick up on, people freak out enough on just being intuitive. Be really great to know a lot more about money things. If I was the things I thought was perfect I would probably open a a major recovery program for families of one. While I don't have anything against children but it seems like society write too many people off if they survive childhood but still struggle in a world taht seems to make life a lot easier for couples..

Perfection, like beauty, is in the mind. It is only in your own mind that you can you judge your own perfection or lack of it.

Relation to self is inadmissible.

As the eyes do not see themselves, I do not, nor ever can, know myself.

I think with a bit of processing power, you can do it.

Much like we see in two dimensions, but the visual information gleaned with our two eyes are processed by our visual cortex and the end result is a three-dimensional vision in a three-dimensional world.

Much like you can know exactly what you look like can be achieved by smokes and mirrors.

If you want to see an outside look of yourself, and compare your looks, movements, voice, utterances and attitudes to those of others, you can look at yourself from a distance, by having and out-of-body experience or by getting yourself filmed.

Yes, you can live a comparatively known life, if you learn how to pick up clues form your human environment and you learnt how you'd precipitated those clues from happening.

Furthermore, we are not all Asperger's sufferers; some humans have the innate capacity of psyching out emotions and moods and attitudes of the self, of others.

I reject your statement. Man is capable of comparative knowledge of himself, because, basically, he can form a holographic mental image of himself just as much accurately as of someone else.

One, there is no use of language that is valid, that violates the original naming convention.

And if you identify with a picture of your body, well, good luck with your hollow graphy.

However, that was a good demonstration of being neither here, nor there.

OK - this is a great thread idea jeannebean and I finally have time to read the topic and answer

perfect - first- is a construct not a reality - but for fun I will play along here - if I could change myself in body I would go back to my size & condition as a college athlete many years ago but I would remove the scoliosis that caused me frequent leg pains and circulatory cramping and ankle injuries. (even tho I am proud that neither scoliosis nor asthma stopped me g-dammit!). And I might mix some of the features of my pre child birth body (skinny kid) with my post child birth body (curvaecous) and I would begin eating healthier at an earlier age.

In mind - I would train my mind differently to think more flexibly and have more faith in my intellectual powers. I would borrow on my strengths and have a better realization earlier in life what those are (quantitative processes) rather than what others expected (bimbo)

If I were to perfect my ability to do certain things naturally I would build on strengths I have had anyway - perhaps become a professional athlete or a musician. And I would have been a better mom - more patience - more understanding and recognition of the unique nature of the individuals under those tiny woolen capshappy
