Let's just throw the book at them and lock them up! HOLY S#IT! When did we start condemning children for being children? How well does/did your 4 yr old listen to you, or believe deep in their heart at 4 that that was a problem? S#IT Happens! At 4 they have a whole lifetime to learn, a few misappropreated munchies along the way and we want to lock up the parents and put the child in foster care or what? Get over the missing munchies and focus on the A$$HOLE who thought he was GOD! when do you start TEACHING them? I wouldnt lock up parents over munchies and I wouldnt put them in foster care but stealing is stealing and I would TEACH her about the real life consequence of being a thief,,, we start when we feel they can understand in our family my four year old knows not to steal, she has had to have the 'threat' explained to her in side of a store when she tried to steal and mom promised to let her go to jail the next time it happens because thats what happens when people steal,,, and she has yet to do it again,,, There is stealing and there is grazing and sampling. Technically in most grocery stores you can sample any consumable product(except for Liquor and Medicine). Who's to say that wasn't a sample. Grocery stores expect to have this type of loss, it's part of the business. This is not an outright theft like someone coming in and concealing merchandise and going out the door, hell you couldn't really prove intent on the above incudent and if you cant prove intent you have no business making the stop let alone stopping a kid and a kid for something like that. I have NEVER heard of it being ok to SAMPLE fruit in a store,, how crazy I have also never heard of it being justified because stores 'expect' it, but people can raise their own children how they choose, we were always taught that in a public business, if you take something you havent paid for, its stealing I have worked in Grocery stores in a Loss Prevention and Loss Prevention Supervisor position for many years and every chain I have ever worked for has allowed sampling of all products and factor in a percentage for shrink. well, thats special, but I have still never seen a store which allowed this as 'acceptable',,,, Then you may wanna open your eyes next time your grocery shopping. oh please,,,I have seen them stop people from 'sampling' so obviously its not always 'acceptable' there are other experiences besides our own,, people forget this too often in these threads They must have ate the WHOLE package which is different then sampling. its not a buffet, if you want it you BUY it, sampling merchandise out for SALE is stealing they have samples set out of those things they arent trying to sell,,,,or, you can ASK just putting your hands all inside of packages that other people have to come behind you and purchase is not just unsanitary and tacky, but it is indeed stealing,, even if some places wish to overlook it for the sake of consumer relations,,, |

![]() This thread is about the abuse of a child at the hands of a psychotic security guard! This just proves my point! To hell with a terrorized child, let's avoid THAT issue over the rights and wrongs of shoppers! ![]() |

I dont consider it being abused
I guess thats the point,,,so I will leave the thread to those who stretch the term to include this situation,,, |

To hell with a terrorized child, let's avoid THAT issue over the rights and wrongs of shoppers! I don't think anyone is avoiding anything. The lack of dialog on that topic is due to the fact that all of us basically agree that the security went overboard. |

Considering the guy was sacked, and the store apologized for his abusive acts and will look into policy issues in that department....I would say that qualifies as abuse!
I personally hope the parents seek damages and charges myself! |

I believe there was a comment on the bottom of the site where someone stated it was Safeway that was involved in the 2 sandwich fiasco a couple months ago as well. |

I believe there was a comment on the bottom of the site where someone stated it was Safeway that was involved in the 2 sandwich fiasco a couple months ago as well. yeah, that one I thought was more questionable, being that they had actually paid for merchandise before leaving the store,,,,seemed reasonable they had 'forgotten' such minor items as opposed to just having a literal free for all without paying for anything,,,, |

We're not talking Black Water mercenaries here... this is a store, and these are security guards acting like some militarized terrorist units on shoppers! |

We're not talking Black Water mercenaries here... this is a store, and these are security guards acting like some militarized terrorist units on shoppers! some of them certainly do the latter should have had the opportunity to pay for their sandwish as they had the other merchandise they put in their carts the former could have been handled with less controversy if the parents had also been made to purchase the merchandise their child 'sampled' from but, as a parent, I would have probably asked in the former situation for a similar 'lesson' to be taught to my child (of course, all adults would need to be in agreement and understanding it was only a lesson and not a real charge) |

As I stated before, if they would have been approached and asked to better watch the child, he probably would have apologized and paid for the fruit as well, but the security guard tried to criminalize a 4 yr old girl instead! |

You have to ask where these security guards go for training classes....DHS? |

That is just another issue of gov't involvement in our lives!
I believe a child who is unruly should stand corrected...NOT abused, but punished. I think a good whacking is needed at times. If the government wants to raise our children, or restict us in their teaching, then they should provide every resource nessessary for proper upbringing until age 18 (or the local ADULT age requirement)! Gov't has NO business in our family/personal life!!!!! Unless a crime is committed! Gee, think I read that somewhere on an old 200+yr old document...... |
