Okay everyone you need to celebrate with us. GO BUY AND EAT LOTS OF FRIED JELLY DONUTS ESP. RASPBERRY FILLED.

GRATE POTATOES AND MIX THEM WITH EGG AND A LITTLE MATZAH FLOUR AND SOME ONION AND FRY THEM IN A TON OF OIL AND THEN SERVE THEM, NOW THIS IS WEIRD WITH SOUR CREAM AND JELLY NO KETCHUP.

Keep in mind this is not as major as Christmas. It's celebrates the Macabees winning and the oil that was left in the temple lasting eight days until they could make new oil so we were able to rededicate the temple.

The reason for the donuts and latkes is they are fried in oil which is the miracle of Chanukah's basiS.

Also, dreidel spinning is gambling FYI. It's similar to shooting dice.

ALSO GET OUT THE WINE

AND I GUESS THE ENGLISH IS

BLESSED ARE YOU OUR LORD RULER OF THE UNIVERSE WHO HAD GIVEN US THE MIRACLE OF CHANUKAH.

NOW SAY THAT, DOWN SOME WINE AND EAT YOUR DONUTS AND POTATO PANCAKES.

FEEL FREE TO GAMBLE FOR CHOCOLATE COINS.

AND LISTENING TO EVERY VERSION OF ADAM SANDLER'S CHANUKAH IS ACCEPTABLE.

"YOU CAN SPIN THE DREIDEL WITH CAPT. KIRK AND MR. SPOCK. BOTH JEWISH"

We have many holidays here in America.

Some celebrate Christmas, which is a single day when femilies get together and enjoy a feast and presents.

Some celebrate Hannukah, which is several days when Jewish families have a celebration.

Some celebrate Kwanzaa which is a seven day period where African American families celebrate several african principles.

At the end of the year, Americans have several parties, parades, and coutdown parties with music and dancing and concerts all around the country.

Really you don't drink wine for Chanukah but I thought if I got you all drunk, I could sell you on the donuts, potato pancakes and gambling.

Hi, welcome to Mingle. The festival of Hannukah is about a wonderful miracle from God to the Jewish people just over two thousand years ago.

You can read about it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanukkah

It is especially fun for children with tradition that they receive a little gift on each of the eight nights of Hanukkah. Also it's great if a person likes to eat donuts because eating donuts and potato latkas (which are similar to hash browns) is traditional as well.

It is about the miracle of the Jewish people surviving as also is the festival of Purim which is in the month of March.

Singmesweet - that Adam Sandler clip is not available to watch in the UK, but I have seen him sing that song on youtube.

Thanks to everyone including the non-Jewish people on Mingle for your festive wishes and support.

This turned into a wonderful thread as it shares so many of the various religious views.

I was surprised it had been moved from the general religion forum, but then I never knew there was a "Well Wishes" forum.

Still it's rather sad because I think this thread embodies all the reasons for having a general religion forum.

Sharing the whys and hows of individuals religious celebrations should always be interesting to everyone who really wants to be part of a free society inclusive of diversity in belief and culture and opposed to bigotry and prejudice.

Since that's what I believe - HAPPY EVERYTHING to EVERY ONE at this time of many celebrations.

Thanks 5apphire for starting off the thread and to everyone who helped it along.
