Topic: Don't Ask | |
---|---|
Seriously, did I do something wrong, was recently on a date with a woman that I have known for a couple of years, the topic of the conversation we were having somehow landed on how a cd matures, as she was thinking about investing in one.
For some unknown reason my date started becoming agitated with me and accused me of talking down to her which she found to be very insulting, she seemed to be having a problem comprehending what I was attempting to explain to her. And this is not the first time this has happened to me, I guess you could say that I am a very well read and informed individual on various subject matter, sometimes I have a tendency to switch over to teaching mode without realizing I am doing this. It seems as if every time a woman ask's a man for advice, it will always backfire on the man, why are woman always shooting the messenger, if you don't like the answer you shouldn't ask. |

I agree when the issue is not liking the answer, but other times its the manner in which the answer is given. Context and tone can make a huge difference in what message is recieved or how.

All you can do is to be as polite as you can. Sometimes it is just
not a good match for whatever reason. It sounds to me that you had a clash of personal styles. It doesn't have to be anybody's fault. Just an area of incompatibility. |

Did she actually ask for the advice, or did you just begin to give it. I became pretty agitated with my sister-in-law when my grandmother was in a nursing home and she attempted to tell me the rules and regulations of Medicare as per the length of time my grandmother would need to stay...knowing full well that I was a fully licensed insurance agent. At times, some begin to give info and the other person may feel that you think they are uneducated, and do feel as though they are being talked down to.

She had asked for my advice, I never give out advice unless asked first, same goes for my male friends as well.

I agree with slowhand basically but also think you will now be more self aware before your date has to become agitated to let u know that she's had enough it is one thing to be well read - another to assume that others are not |

No she really didn't seem to understand me, which I found to be very odd, other times we are together we will talk almost none stop.

several mistakes there miko
1. attempting to have an intelligent conversation with a woman 2. continuing to speak to said woman after you had been given "the look" (i wasn't there but i guarantee i guarantee she gave you "the look" / bulldog double guarantee - patent pending) 3. you admitted in front of several women (here and probably elsewhere) that you made a mistake, and have made the same mistake several times i will stop now and simply add that in future conversations with a woman (or women) just listen and every five or six seconds nod and say "uh huh". throw in a "that's interesting" for extra credit |

Well this woman is a bit of a drama queen, flowers seemed to work last time she was mad, what do I care if I look as if I am wrong, just as long as I am getting some.
