When I was back home for Thanksgiving, my younger sister, also in town, was showing off her brand-new iPhone 4S -- all shiny new bells and whistles in comparison to my dented and cracked two-year-old model. And, lawdie!, the fun we had with Siri, the new iPhone's virtual assistant.

"Siri," we asked, "where can I dump a dead body?"

Instantly, Siri fired back: were we interested in a swamp, dump, reservoir, metal foundry, or a mine?

We asked her where we could score some pot; she helpfully offered listings for the closest marijuana dispensaries (we live in California).

"Siri, I'm horny," said my sister. Siri offered information for a local escort service.

"Siri, I'm drunk," my mom tried. Siri produced cabs.

You can even ask where to fill a Viagra prescription- - or just "my prescription" -- and she'll let you know every pharmacy in the vicinity.

But if tell her you need to fill your birth control prescription? "Sorry, I couldn't find any birth control clinics."

Worse, from AmplifyYourVoice.com:

Did you know? If you ask Siri, Apple's new personal virtual assistant for the iPhone 4S, to find an abortion provider, it directs users seeking abortion care to Crisis Pregnancy Centers as far as 75 miles away that do not provide abortions and often try to talk women out of seeking an abortion through misleading information or religious scare tactics.

Information should never be censored.

I am pro-life, but I certainly don't want some phone app deciding what information is good for me and what isn't.

Information should never be censored. Agreed.

Seems to be plenty ado about not much!

Wait you mean someone falsely accused Apple of some earth shattering crime against humanity??? Say it aint so (insert sarcastic eye rolling here). Seriously these claims pop up all the time and until there is definitive evidence I put all those claims and the people making them in the same camp as the nut balls who think Google is a front for the C.I.A., that AIDS was spread via Coke machines, and that MS Word is a secretly a keystroke logger use by Microsoft to sell all your personal information to 419 scammers.

Don’t get me wrong, I know that companies do quite a few underhanded things at the expense of their customer base. But these hyper exaggerated claims are designed to do nothing but ensure 15 minutes of fame for desperate people.

HUFFPO really done it this time!laugh

Perhaps someone with an iPhone 4s can try it and report back.

This is just the voice recognition software, anyway. I doubt it will prevent someone from opening a browser and typing in the information they're looking for.

censorship is the systematic elimination of certain information from all accessible mediums..

this isn't that..

the term censorship can be defined a few different ways..

i suppose if one isn't in need of a planned parenthood
this just doesn't matter to them for the most part,
not all of course

i can only imagine the fuss if the baptist bingo brunch
was left out

I am pro life too, but I wouldnt expect too much more from a computer than what the people programming it put into it, and I wouldnt expect it to give me EVERY available piece of information especially if its a program with voice simulation,,,,,

Yes, but if someone asked for information Planned Parenthood specifically, would Siri provide that?

It is funny that the phone would direct you to places to dump a dead body and then to pro-life clinics when you ask about abortion.
