Though the craziest stories I have heard were about Pentecostals. I had an internship about an hour north of my hometown. People there told me stories about a local Pentecostal group and they were pretty strange. They were so bad people would leave the church and if you left the church they stalked you and even beat you.

you find extreme beliefs in every group,,,whatever their label

Not always. I find Methodists in general to be quite normal and sane people for the most part.

I find baptists, in general, to be the same

You are baptist..yes?

yes

and IM sure there are 'methodists' who have extreme beliefs , as they are human beings,,,

I once went to my friends Baptist church and they spent about 10 minutes bashing Catholics. The dude was actually like "lets talk about Catholics".

thats interesting, but not surprising,,,,

That's so stupid and disgusting.

Moses (a Jew) married a black woman and God cursed his sister for badmouthing Moses over his wife. Somebody should give these people a Bible.

I went with a friend back east one time..that day it was mormon bashing. My friend was embarrassed and disgusted. He said every sunday was the same bashing, different religion. He has since re-evaulated his relationship with 'god'
He belongs to no organized religion now.

I personally think that polygamy should be legal. I think it's a disgusting institution, which is degrading to women, but I don't feel I have the moral authority to stop grown adults from behaving how they choose to behave. Would you really want to marry more than one woman? You know that Abraham went against God's wishes in marrying more than one woman, right? He didn't fully trust that God would give him a son through Sarah, so he keep trying to produce children with other women.

thats unfortunate,, but understandable

I Try not to judge a group by any one situation,

I probably wouldnt have gone back to THAT church after the first time and would find another (I have actually done this several times because of the style of preaching not touching my heart )

It is unfortunate that people let the worst amongst us define the rest of us,,,but I understand it is human to categorize that way,,,

Neither Moses or Abraham were actually real people. So don't sweat it.

You cannot prove that any of those characters actually existed, so I cannot accept any of your fables about them.

And you can't disprove their existence. There are lots of people we can't prove existed. The absence of proof is not the proof of absence. Silly logical fallacies. You are free to believe whatever you wish but you can't claim your side is correct because the other side can't prove they are right. The same could be said by your opposing side and it would just be a circular argument.

My thinking is that so much weight is placed on those characters and so much is riding on them, that if there is no proof that they ever existed, it should be taken into account that there is a strong possibly they probably didn't exist.

So call it even. I can't take your statements as truth, because there is no evidence that the characters are real. You don't have to believe me either.

Just don't expect me to believe you or accept the authority of your stories.

It is not my job to prove anything does not exist. If you claim someone existed it is your job to prove it if you want to be believed.

I am not going to assume they existed just because some people believe they did. I would need proof or convincing evidence.
