my cousin lost his wife last weekend, she was found dead in thier house. We had a little gathering for him to comfort him, and during this gathering i thought it would be appropriate to say a prayer for him. all his brothers are JWs. When i mentioned this, thier reply was that this would not be appropriate!. Im trying to understand this but im not getting any answers either from them or from other JWs. can anyone explain this apparant belief?

JWs don't believe that Jesus is God. They don't worship Jesus and they don't pray to Jesus.

adj4u,

What article are you reading? That's not from the one I just posted. The last line in the article I posted is "There, God is always the superior, and Jesus is the subordinate servant."

I usually don't post in here because religion is a touchy subject with most people....but Rambill you did not say anything to them about saying a prayer to Jesus, you just asked to say a prayer.

Since they do not believe that Jesus is God, but that He is Lord

"The apostle Paul had no reservations about speaking of Jesus and God as distinctly separate: "For us there is one God, the Father, . . . and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ." (1 Corinthians 8:6, JB) The apostle shows the distinction when he mentions "the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels." (1 Timothy 5:21, RS Common Bible) Just as Paul speaks of Jesus and the angels as being distinct from one another in heaven, so too are Jesus and God"
(from the link that spidercmb gave you)

you should have been able to say a prayer asking God to take care of her soul and not had any problem...

But that is just my opinion:smile:

adj4u,

I'm really lost...

I posted a JW URL.

You posted a URL to a page where a Christian is explaining to JWs why their beliefs are not biblically correct.

From YOUR link...
===========================================================
The Jehovah's Witnesses have complicated the issue by teaching that the Bible says that only 144,000 people will be born again and go to heaven. This is Jehovah's Witness doctrine, but no passage in the Bible presents or infers this teaching (See chapter 3). Following the teachings of their leaders, however, many Witnesses believe that after the resurrection they will be God's subjects in a new paradise on earth, and that they can enter without being born again. God says the opposite, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3).
===========================================================

I thought you were saying I was wrong, but you posted a link supporting what I said. Do you see why I'm confused?

ok it was the wrong article

but they still believe he is the son of god

and that he existed

and from first hand knowledge they pray asking jesus
to take the prayer to his father

so i will agree that it is a little differnt than
what some christian beliefs teach

and yes they are very paticular about their prayer
formate at least those i have known

they are very confusing

just like their abstention from blood (transfusion is an example)

but yet an organ transplant is okay

adj4u,

Individual JWs might believe that Jesus is God and pray to Jesus, but the church itself does NOT beleive that Jesus is God and they do NOT pray to or worship Jesus. Read the link I posted and see for yourself.
