U.S. banks should "undermine" Occupy protesters: memo
By David Ingram | Reuters – 3 hrs ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Occupy Wall Street movement is a big enough problem for U.S. banks that they should pay for opposition research into the political motives of protesters, said a firm that lobbies for the industry.

Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford, a Washington-based firm, proposed the idea in a memo to the American Banking Association, an industry group which said on Saturday that it did not act on the idea.

The four-page memo outlined how the firm could analyze the source of protesters' money, as well as their rhetoric and the backgrounds of protest leaders.

"If we can show they have the same cynical motivation as a political opponent, it will undermine their credibility in a profound way," said the memo, according to a copy of it on the website of TV news channel MSNBC, which first reported on it.

Clark Lytle Geduldig counts the banking association among its regular lobbying clients, U.S. Senate records showed.

Other clients include MasterCard Worldwide and a banking coalition concerned about interchange fees.

The firm did not respond to requests for comment.

Its memo said it could deliver research, survey data and plans to use the information in 60 days at a cost of $850,000.

Banking association spokesman Jeff Sigmund told Reuters the memo is authentic, but his group was not interested.

"Our government relations staff received the proposal - it was unsolicited and we chose not to act on it in any way," Sigmund said.

The memo is dated November 24, five days after it became public. Sigmund did not respond to a follow-up question about the date. November 24 is also the Thanksgiving holiday.

The memo said U.S. financial firms should be concerned about comments that Democratic campaign consultants have made in the news media about trying to harness the energy of the Occupy Wall Street protesters.

"This would mean more than just short-term political discomfort for Wall Street firms," it said.

"If vilifying the leading companies of this sector is allowed to become an unchallenged centerpiece of a coordinated Democratic campaign, it has the potential to have very long-lasting political, policy and financial impacts on the companies in the center of the bull's-eye."

The memo is from Clark Lytle Geduldig's four name partners. Two of them, Sam Geduldig and Jay Cranford, are former aides to House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner, a Republican. surprised

Using shorthand for Occupy Wall Street, the memo said:

"It may be easy to dismiss OWS as a ragtag group of protesters but they have demonstrated that they should be treated more like an organized competitor who is very nimble and capable of working the media, coordinating third party support and engaging office holders to do their bidding {Wonder if they mean making government work for the people again.... think maybe? think). To counter that, we have to do the same."

For me to say what the Banks think of OWS is speculative. The fact is that the DNC will use any means to jerk at voter sympathy. That is one thing the Banks are all too aware of as well as the Pseudo Communist presence among the DNC (Socialists in Disguise). The question is how do the banks see profiting from all of this both financially and politically? All banks see is bottom line and profit margins. They could care less about a fraction of the population. Now if these protesters were more organized and were persuading people to take their money from banks and go Credit Unions, that would indeed scare the crap out of the bankers. The fact is too many of these OWS people are the same complacent bastards and beyatches that do business with the very banks they hate.

Likewise the OWS people when asked questions like "If offered a job by a corporation would you take it?" the ignorance and vitriol of their responses discredit them with me utterly. On top of that these protesters are not takgin the protests where they need to go! They are too scared of what Obama will do to them. it isn't Wall Street who is going to listen to them, it is Congress but what are they proving? They don't have a real message other than they are pissed off socialists wanting a handout!

Again I don't see this as a reason to think the Banks are scared. They are going to try to use advertising and a media campaign to make themselves look better since happy stories and pleasing ancedotes seem to placate most of these sheeple anyways!

Bank Lobby Plans Attack on Occupy Movement
The banking lobby has a new message for the Occupy movement: don’tmess with our money.
A well-known financial services lobbying firm based in Washington hascome up with a plan thatwould funnel close to $1 million in funds towards undermining the OccupyWall Street and other Occupy protests.
According to MSNBC's"Up With Chris Hayes," lobbying firm Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford senta memo to the American Bankers Association withan outline for the plan, which suggests, among other things, doing “opposition research” on the Occupy movement in order to help construct “negative narratives” about protesters and the politicians who support them.
The memo states, according to MSNBC, thatwins by Democrats in 2012 elections would be detrimental to Wall Street firms — and suggests specific races inwhich Republicans would be more friendly to the financial industry.

I smell Liberal Misinformation here now!

Nothing personal but for the banks to say "If they vote Democrat we are in trouble so lets get them to vote Republican," That SMACKS of manipulation. Bill Clinton was the Democrat that gave banks deregulation. Classically Democrats have been super deep in bed with certain industries, Banking being one of them.

My suspicion is that banks WANT people to vote Democrat. Remember , these weasels have manipulated our country since the birth of the Federal Reserve.

We had a Union meeting this weekend and we met our new international rep.

Among the other issues we discussed much to my suprise he mentioned the OWS movement and politicis. It was refreshing.

He mentioned how important it is to get involved in politics and how we should support any candidate that supports labor and the middle class regardless of his party.

He mentioned how the OWS was fighting our fight of economic fairness and if we had a chance to support them we should.

This is a verry good sign for too long now the labor movement has forgoten it is also a social movement with the goal of a better life and working conditions for americas working men and woman. We are often caught up in the game of how much more medical insurence we will have to pay and how much more will we make.

And you assume that the DNC or Banks will not find a way to profit from this somehow? You are aware we need to do away with career politicians and also lobbying? That will only put a scratch in the overall problem of our nation. The OWS movement is misguided. They demand change from the wrong people. Do you honestly think foxes give a crap about the complaints of the chickens they steal eggs from???

realy? Any evidence to support this absurd statement?

What union do you belong to?
What meeting did you attend?

No Mr Conrad the OWS movement is fairly spontaneous it is a direct result of our economic crissis that has been created by the 1%.

The Unions at one time acted as a fire wall to help promote social justice, however we are so weakened by decades "free trade" we are just bit players and more often than not take consesions to preserve our jobs.

I wish I could say proudly that the unions were neck deep in it however the only thing we have in common is we are all sick of lower wages and higher prices, all the while the rich get even richer and pay less and less taxes.

The last comment is yours sir, I have to go to work and pay my taxes and do my small part as a productive member of society.

Why you up so early anyhow?

Again the problem is the people we keep voting in. 4 more years of Obama will cripple this nation and divide its people! The OWS is nothing more than people blowing smoke out their azzes. What we need is for an Occupy Washington DC movement that includes people blocking streets, taking on the police with escalating violence up to arming up and actually even shooting back at police, and making it abundantly clear that Congress and our "President Elect" (COUGH WHEEZE) get the clue they are fuquing up. You talk about the head of the snake? You are not taking this snake down without defanging it first! We need to vote out the losers who are train wrecking our nation. People have to quit voting on party lines and vote on past performance, and not their message but their actions. People so eagerly forgot Obama's callous remarks and Rhetoric before he was running for president. We need to get rid of the Federal Reserve and reinstate banking regulations. We need a fair and balanced tax structure. We need people who will represent us and our laws, not rewrite them to suit their sensitivities. My god the list of things we need for the good of OUR nation before the good of others is HUGE! How can we put people back to work when the people who make jobs won't come back? We are so dependent on Imports now I am sickened! So China now builds itself on OUR backs? Who is fooling who here? Did you not Vote for Obama? Now look at the damage he has done! Don't you feel even slightly disillusioned about him?

In order to cut the strings we need to find them all and money is usually why these people sell us out. Term limits on Congressmen and Senators would be a nice start!

I am sorry but OWS is a joke to me. And again I feel Unions had too much power for too long and contributed to a lot of business leaving this nation. I feel they need to be put back into place. It is one thing to be a watch dog but to be the top dog, I think not! Unions do serve a purpose. But that purpose needs clarification.

Our education system has been taking a stiff beating and illegal immigrants tax that resource more than contribute to it.

Social programs are way too out of control. BTW got the straight 411 from my mom about when we applied for welfare back in the 1970s, my family was DENYED Welfare because we owned a piece of crap car my mom needed to get to and from work. If she sold the car we could have gotten welfare. After hearing that I was pissed off. I now can and will say WELFARE IS A UTTER FAILURE! There may have been reforms since the 1970s but it is too little too late and not doing any real good! Welfare is making people WANT to be poor! That is another argument for another time and place but for now what changes has Obama and congress made to affect this crisis???

Please say the right answer which is NONE!

Professional agitators:

It goes without saying that any movement which claims to have no leaders and no organizational structure cannot possibly have a consensus about anything.

No one can genuinely claim to speak for the rabble.
It's not a movement. It has no cause and no unity.
It's a mob.

People are there for their own reasons.
If there had been a rock festival at the same time the crowds would have gone there. But these are hard times so the closest thing they could fird was squatting in the park. At least it was free.

So why did the Socialist/Communist/Obamanist fringe invest so much time and effort and media hype promoting such meaningless BS?

Because their agenda is to create chaos, and use that chaos as an excuse for establishing dictatorial control.

Don't forget they already hold the reins of power now.
This is not about their seizing control.
This is about them refusing to relinquish control.
This is about a communist type takeover.

And just like in Russia, although the revolution started with the relatively moderate Kerensky regime, it soon got taken over by the radical Bolsheviks.

The Wall Street rabble don't really have a true agenda. But the agitators and "community organizers" who used the confusion to try to present themselves as spokesmen for the rabble certainly have an agenda.

They want to redistribute your wealth into their pockets.

Don't kid yourself that they are only targeting the super-rich.

The super-rich own the government. They control the Central Banks. They control the spending of nations. They can't be "taxed". They laugh at the idea. They can create money out of thin air. They own the governmment.

They can't be intimidated by a rabble in the park. They control armies and own presidents.

So the target of the Wall Street scammers is not the super-rich.

It's everybody else.

Bear in mind I despise Hiraldo Rivera BUT he interviewed the OWS movement at Wall Street. One of his pet questions was "If one of the people inside Wall Street offered you a real job with real pay would you take it?" More often than not the replay was a very hostile 'No' along with "I will not work for any suit." Also many expect a working wage to do NOTHING! What does this say about the movement? It is disorganized. It sends the wrong message. And it is individual messages that make no sense and just a sense of frustration without any real direction. Again what does the Fox care if the hens he is stealing eggs complain about it?

woman who was pepper sprayed during during a raid on Occupy Seattle last week is blaming police after she miscarried Sunday.

Jennifer Fox, 19, told The Stranger that she had been with the Occupy protests since they started in Westlake Park. She said she was homeless and three months pregnant, but felt the need to join activists during their march last Tuesday.

“I was standing in the middle of the crowd when the police started moving in,” Fox recalled. “I was screaming, ‘I am pregnant, I am pregnant. Let me through. I am trying to get out.’”

She claimed that police hit her in the stomach twice before pepper spraying her. One officer struck her with his foot and another pushed his bicycle into her. It wasn’t clear if either of those incidents were intentional.

“Right before I turned, both cops lifted their pepper spray and sprayed me. My eyes puffed up and my eyes swelled shut,” Fox said.

Munchausen by Proxy or better yet, Martyrdom by proxy. I would like to see what medical experts have to say about this. In the same breath what about the destruction these protests are leaving behind? The situation sucks but if she was pregnant she should have protested from the perimeter instead of throwing herself into the middle of the fray. She should have thought more about putting herself in the line of fire because she also dragged her child into this. If anyone should face charges she should.

Wrong.
As you have seen from the above, it is the so called "leaders" that the opposition plans to target. They want to cut off the head of the movement and they think that will put an end to it.

Ha ha ha ha. If a movement has no "leaders" or the leaders are anonymous, they will have a hard time doing that.

It is the new M.O. for civil disobedience.

Leaders, stay anonymous.

I don't think the movement has that much organization.

I agree that the Elite are not going to be all that rattled about it.

To take down the Elite all people have to do is to stop consuming so much crap including and mostly DRUGS.

Stop buying drugs and stop buying foreign made products and the whole globalization plan will go out the window.

Stop playing the Stock Market, close your bank accounts. Invest in some real goods. Trade and barter. Don't pay taxes.

But people aren't that knowledgeable or organized to do that in mass. Too bad.
