A short while ago I had to go to our Regional VA Hospital for a biopsy. While there I was stunned to find a city of tents and cars on the property. I was told they were all homeless, mostly jobless, vets.
My own health slipping, I thought to myself... "There but for fortune....". I have been able to maintain a "hand to mouth" existence with my skills, but am considered "unemployable" due to health and age. My abilities are rapidly becoming moot. My efforts for assistance being "under determination" (waiting to see if I die I guess) for some time, with no finacial help available to me. Government Red Tape! In many conversations, surfing the web, and functions I attend, I find I am only one of many thousands of my generation in this same "catagory", with many living on hospital grounds, in tents and cars..... beginning to see my disdain? Feel me now Washington, Wall Street? Meanwhile, Washington wants to cut Veteran care, eldery care, social security and any future I and others, of our generation, might have. They won't however, quit funding futile "forever wars", the war machine in general, or think of bringing our troops home, cutting the cost of these senseless wars and occupied bases around the world! Haliburton, the bankers, and other large corporations just won't allow it! It's too profitable for them! Mitt Romney... (I gasped when I heard it!) said "Corporations are people too!". If that were true, and they REALLY WERE people, it seems with the BILLIONS in quartely profits and bonuses to CEOs and execs they boast of, some small part of it would trickle down to people in need out of HUMAN compassion, or be used to create jobs, and not be so focused on just profits. Yep, great candidates for President.... More of the same! They are laughable, like game show hosts, ...... save one.... Ode to homeless Vets As he stares from the windshield of his new home, he sees a wasteland forming around him People, once proud and happy, now gleaning precious scraps from the gleaming cans of corporate waste Small children, once coddled and cooed, now ignored, for fear a hand-out be their request Once busy streets, bright with small shops, their items proudly displayed, now boarded and lifeless, home to many who seek their shelter Life becomes existence, struggle, with leisure defined not by rest, but fatigue and starvation There is no food for his family table. nor even a table, taken with his home, his dreams and pride of ownership Job lines, bread lines, his fate, while headlines boast of corporate bonus on Wall Street, for jobs well done, but not created There is water, but none fit to drink or frolic in, poluted by the greed and waste of corporate crimes allowed He sheds a tear, remembering the call to serve this once great nation, now seen in ruin around him His many medals, a Purple Heart, no barter for even a meal to sustain him or his family, his tattered coat a baby's bed His pride intact, his tear is not for self, but greedy self indulgence, which sealed this fate for our great nation Life, liberty, pursuit of happiness.... words lost on political ear, courage and pride, replaced by war and terror "Release the dogs of war!" the cry. Born of lust for wealth, control, not caring of the outcome, as our nation, vets and soldiers fall prey This Vet, this broken soldier, this defender of our land, now homeless, and forgotten, repaid with negligent abuse, after giving so much.... So I ask: What will be our legacy when we have lost all sense of right? Bailing out rich bankers and corporations so they can pay large bonuses to those who have caused this, while our veterans, our citizens, sleep homeless, jobless, with their families in the decaying cars and boarded buildings of government and corporate greed? After all, we elect and pay them to work in our best interests. How you like them so far? It's time to take back our nation, our freedoms, our rights. Restore our Constitution, our Bill Of Rights, our PRIDE. Show our vets their sacrifices for ALL of us was NOT in vain! VOTE RON PAUL 2012! |

Sad, but true.... I found myself depressed today, from things I saw along my way Broken Veterans, tattered clothes, who live in tents, and call them homes Jobless, homeless, full of fear, with numbers rising every year Not lazy, wino, or there by choice, but victimed, forgotten, by political voice How can our government say they care, with sites this common everywhere? They bail out banks, and foreign power, with soldiers dying every hour Defending freedom (or so we're told), or is it for more corporate gold Must our children fight and die? It's time we start to question, "Why?" How can they know our nations need, consumed by power, wealth and greed Just talking points for them to use, while freedom and liberty they abuse Voting laws they've never read, because some generous lobbyist said In favor for some big donation, to help them win, and rule our nation What's happened to our once great nation? We the people? Where's our ration? Where's our freedom? Where's our right? Where's the justice for our plight? Why's the war machine so grand? Where's prosperity in our land? Where's the happiness we once knew? Why is it limited to so few? War and terror! Wall Street greed! This will help our nations need? Taxes high, debt keeps climbing, seems to me that someone's lying! These politicians want the throne, while bankers want to take our home The corporations want our money, I've had enough! This isn't funny! Thru open eyes I see the light, know the reasons for our plight I vote against the corporation...... in favor of our still great nation! I vote an end to banker greed...... in favor of our nations need I vote for justice, truth.... and might, a special vote for veterans rights! VOTE RON PAUL 2012 |

"Life becomes existance, struggle, with leisure defined not by rest, but fatigue and starvation..."
"His many medals, a Purple Heart, no barter for even a meal to sustain him or his family..." So sad... When heroes are forgotten. |

Very unfortunate that our service men and women are used as pawns for the greedy agenda of corrupt government and corporations!!!
I watched a show just last night about a young woman who served 2 tours in Iraq. She came home with issues, PTSD is one...and became a drug addict. She started self medicating the pain of what she had lived through. When she eventually got busted she was put in prison for 3 years, not rehab, not help, just prison time. Wondering if she sits in her cell and ponders her service to her county |

Wondering if she sits in her cell and ponders her service to her county This is my (Viet Nam) story revisited, and the story of many vets returning from combat in the present day. You return to a world you don't "fit" in, not like WWII vets returning "when the wars were finally over....". It's Veterans Day..... where are the posts today, of gratitude so deserved by these great men and women? There is NO PRIDE in war we have now learned. Before one is finished they will find us another for our children to die in. "Forever Wars", what an invention of the ruling elite to Nation Build, thin the masses, profit and control by attrition! I can assure you of one thing L.... ANY veteran, who has faced combat, will EVER hesitate to take up arms for their country or family if they need them, as long as the cause is LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL! There are regrets, but they have nothing to do with our nation or the majority (99%) of its people! It would be nice to "know" more people actually cared however, rather than one day a year or when they become a news item. |
