Topic: Occupy Oakland's Dangerous “Strike” Follies | |
---|---|
The next stage of the Aimless Occupation of America is upon us: On Wednesday, rabble-rousers in the San Francisco Bay Area will walk off jobs they don't have and encourage everyone else around thecountry to abandon workto protest high unemployment.
The Occupiers are calling their organized day of inaction a "Mass Day of Action." The Carpenters Local 713, the Service Employees International Union , the United Auto Workers and the Industrial Workers of the World have all endorsed the "general strike." Longshore workers and their union agitators are rooting for the shutdownof the Port of Oakland . Teachers unions will pushstudents and educators to play hooky. Their posters urge: "No Work. No School. Occupy Everywhere." |

OAKLAND -- Several businesses, including the Men's Wearhouse and the Grand Lake Theater closed their doors Wednesday in support of today's planned General Strike as thousands of people are expected to join the Occupy Oakland movement to protest the inequality of wealth and power.
The UC office of the President is also closed today over concerns that BART might be shut downat some point and more than 1,000 people who work in the building wouldn't be able to get to or from work. The Occupy Oakland camp got the rally going before 8:30 a.m., putting together signs and pumping music from speakers outfitted to a truck that will serve as a rolling platform. The first scheduled mass-gathering takes place at Frank Ogawa Plaza at 9 a.m. followed by a march on financial institutions. |
