I had that happen once, where I clicked pay at pump, used my debit and then it wouldnt print my receipt but told me I could get it inside.

I thought to myself, 'screw that' and got in my car...the clerk came out and followed me a few steps like he couldnt beleive I would think for myself instead of follow the directions. As if I was driving off with out paying. its a load of poo.

laugh laugh @load of poo,,,,

I had a similar laughter, into the face of a cornerstore shop keeper. I went in, bought milk and bread, checked out the DVD selection, wanted to borrow two DVDs, he wanted to take my credit card number.

I said, man, if you can't trust me to bring back $20 worth of borrowed merchandize, then why should I trust you with my $4,000 credit on the card?

Idiots.

good one wux

i also noticed it costs more to be single. example, short loaf of bread costs twice as much as full loaf. buying items in bulk usually is cost effective, but if you live alone, you end up tossing out half the purchase because it goes bad before you have a chance to consume it. buy one get one free coupons don't help when you go for a burger(unless you can eat two combo meals yourself) what about the cost of a single item being more than half the cost of the same item bought in a two for sale. (like a candy bar is 75 cents or two for a dollar) maybe single people should have pretend mates when shopping. that way you could split the bill, split the purchase, and SAVE

We don;t really have pay at the pump, you fill up your car and then go in and pay, they dont touch our credit cards.
Or someone will come out and fill your car up and you pay them then, but not many places fill your car for you now, only in the country towns.

we used to have "full service" or "self service" gasoline stations. full service stations had an attendant who gassed up your vehicle, cleaned your windows, and also checked fluid levels and tire pressure. some stations had full service and self service pumps for you to choose from. the gasoline at the full service pumps cost more

WHY ME! ok, i'm sitting here mingling and i get a craving that my sweet tooth won't let me forget. i find a bag of peanut m&m's and the first one i get out of the bag falls (and of course rolls off in the most remote unreachable area). i still have the rest of the bag, but darn it, it's the one that thinks he can get away i HAVE to eat first. it's a cruel world

I think they have that in new jersey too.

Yes...NJ is civilized ...hehehe....you don't get out of your car...they pump the gas in all types of weather and the gas price is no higher and sometimes cheaper than most states...damn I miss NJ sometimes love

Shadow Labor!
We all do it!

Everybody does "shadow work." No matter how a person makes a living — trading time, talent, and productivity for a more marketable commodity, money, so as to trade that indirect good for necessities and beyond. Virtually everyone in the modern economy pumps their own gas, drives themselves to work, or scans their own groceries.

In his New York Times piece "Our Unpaid, Extra Shadow Work" Craig Lambert says the term "shadow work" was coined 30 years ago by Austrian philosopher and social critic Ivan Illich, in his 1981 book of that title. Illich believed any work we do that we aren't directly compensated for is shadow work.

Mr. Lambert points out that in order to work for a living we all take on various unpaid tasks. Driving to a job means we have to not only operate the car but fuel it, obtain insurance, have it maintained periodically, and so on. Even if we don't change the oil, we accept the management role to see that it's done.

The digital world has generated hours of shadow work. Travel agents are going the way of the Dodo bird while we log in and book our own plane flights, rental cars, and hotel reservations. Once we get to the airport, we deal with self-serve kiosks until it's time to cross the TSA border where a human hand is provided but unwanted.laugh
