It is a strange choice of names, by itself I Dont consider it abusive anymore than allowing a male to dress like a female. We have to learn a certain level of 'tolerance' for what might offend us in this country and although I dont necessarily agree with putting a child in a situation where they are MORE likely to be taken offensively, I dont want to see names being criminalized in any way. So you don't think kids with names Adolf Hitler and Aryan Nation wouldn't be the target of violence before they would be old enough to legally change their name? I think its a serious risk. Also the emotional trauma one could endure when they are old enough to realize what their names mean. Pretty sure these parents don't love their kids. Are you saying that naming your kids in a way that attracts violence is a form of abuse? So if I name my male son "Lilac", and he gets the crap beat out of him for having a ***** name... then am I an abusive parent? Lilac isn't an offensive name. Its just a dumb one. That is different. You could claim you had no idea people would beat him up over that. Adolf Hitler or Aryan Nation are two different things entirely. SO yea purposefully giving them a name that at its core is racist and promotes violence and racism you would be responsible if something happened to that child because of it. Interesting. I see it as a matter of degree, not of categorical difference - but I can see your point of view as being valid as well. So are you of the position that naming your kid Adolf Hitler is a form of abuse of that kid? |

You cannot assess how much a parent loves their child by what they name them even if it remains those names, anymore than you can change the belief system of some. Those names would probably make them tough, "A Boy Named Sue" theory here. They have a right to choose any name they wish for their children. Maybe she should make her own birthday cakes from now on. It is a free country and they can name their children whatever they wish. Obviously not what I would have chosen nor many others, but hey is Moon Unit Zappa or Dweasel Zappa any better or different?? You're comparing those names to Adolf Hitler and Aryan Nation? Really? How do they compare? Are they going to offend people like the names in the OP? Didnt say they would offend, was going on the bizarre of it.....but they can name their kids what they wish....... Yes, the names you used as an example may be weird, but they don't compare to the ones in the OP. |
