WASHINGTON (AP) — A White House official says President Barack Obama will announce Friday that U.S. troops will be out of Iraq by the end of the year.
The announcement will allow the U.S. to say definitively that the war in Iraq is over after eightyears. The official says the partnership betweenthe U.S. and Iraq will become a normal one between two sovereign nations.
Obama was to make the announcement at the White House after speaking to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki .
The official said the two leaders agreed strongly that it was the best way forward. Some U.S. officials had argued for a troop presence beyondthe end of the year to cement security gains.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of the president's remarks.

This is excellent news as President Obama has kept his promise and now all of that money that we would have been wasted in Iraq could be used to pay down the deficit and invest here in the USA. Allyou righties who cry that we are broke well we just saved us billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

It's simply a re-election ploy...truth is....too little, too late... it is however, if it is true, GREAT news (and LOOOOOOOOOOONG overdue!)!

Those Righties will never accept that Obama is there to clean up after The Shrub and the illegal/immoral war he is totally responsible for.

Iraq was the greatest atrocity committed in the last 100 years.

Bush and the United Kingdom under Prime Minister Tony Blair . [ 50 ] The war is also referred to as the Occupation of Iraq , the Second Gulf War , or Operation Iraqi Freedom by the US military.
Prior to the invasion, the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom asserted that the possibility of Iraq employing weapons of mass destruction (WMD) threatened their security and that of their coalition/regional allies.

The only WMD in Iraq were those sold to Sadamm Hussein by the United States and The United Kingdom.

Tony Blair told the British People they were in danger of being attacked within 45 minutes...yes 45 minutes...He is now a peace envoy in the middle east and since assisting GWB in the destruction of Iraq he has somehow become a very, very rich man. BTW he (Blair) spends very little time in the UK these days. He is not welcome.

I wont be suprised if Blair gets arrested for war crimes in some country somewere that still abides by the Nuremburg Laws.

Never found those wmds, we didnt avenge 911 because Saddam had nothing to do with that.

It seems only the bankers benefit because both sides are indebted to them.

Obama did sign an agreement,, he actually pushed for it sooner, but advisors and military advised against it,,,

I know of no agreement with Bush

REVISION: Bush did sign the SOFA in 2008,,,election year

OBama is apparently upholding it,, likewise, in an election year

both can take credit for bringing them out,,,

Bush wasn't up for reelection so that has nothing to do with it.

"The U.S.–Iraq Status of Forces Agreement (official name: "Agreement Between the United States of America and the Republic of Iraq On the Withdrawal of United States Forces from Iraq and the Organization of Their Activities during Their Temporary Presence in Iraq") is a status of forces agreement (SOFA) between Iraq and the United States. It establishes that U.S. combat forces will withdraw from Iraqi cities by June 30, 2009, and all U.S. forces will be completely out of Iraq by December 31, 2011
On December 14, 2008, U.S. President George W. Bush signed the security pact with Iraq".

I don't really care anything about it being an elction year. Bush should get credit for making the pact with Iraq.
Obama had nothing to do with it. I don't recall Obama signing any agreement with with Iraq.

Ok maybe I should have quoted your entire post.

Wow I guess your one of those who believe the holocaust never happened when you make a comment like that. That's what Hitler has to do with it.

Bush had no intention of getting out of Iraq ever so this pac was just a "because something had to be written down" type thing. Remember the mission was accomplished in 2003 according to him so why were we there after that?

You want to give GWB credit for the murder of thousands of Iraqis!!! are you serious. He should be brought before the ICC for war crimes along with his British counterpart Blair and Cheney as No 1 warmonger.
