Really eat up your at home time. Tack on another hour getting to work and another hour back home and that leaves little time to relax. Hurry up and cook some supper, clean up and go to bed. Then get up at 4 am and do it all over again for 5 more days. grumble

It must seem overwhelming at times.
I used to have to leave the house by
3:45am each morning to beat the traffic
on the Bay Bridge in SF.
Five minutes late and your commute went
from 45 minutes to 2 hours.

But you know, if needs must, it becomes
routine.
I had a much more restful experience
after I learned to go to bed as early
as it took to WANT to get up in
the morning.
That meant, sometimes, going home from
work, eating, then hitting the sack.
It won't last forever :-)
You learn not to resent what you
have to do.
Or you buy a better job.

For months at the last real job I had I was driving to Phoenix to work and as a superintedent you leave when everything is done for the day then I would drive home to Tucson. I would spend 3-4 hours a day driving so I feel your pain.

I work 12hr shifts and i agree. There is not much else going on except for working whilst you are on shift. I dont have to work as many days overall though as other people so i cant complain about it. Sometimes i will be working nearly every day for a few weeks, other times i will have a few weeks where i dont have to work all that much.

I work 12 hour rotateing shift. what I like about it is you get a lot of time off, basicly you get a day off for every day you work..
and on night shift, like now, you can play on the puter bigsmile

I like my schedule - it's an early 2nd shift schedule so I can get an errand in in the morning if I must and do not get off all that late in the eves. and I rotate Saturdays so that every other week I have a day off in the middle of the week.

I used to work 10-12 hrs a day - 10 was fine but I prefer 8 or 9 for balance - 12 was too many because I really don;t feel anyone was all that productive after 9 or 10 hrs
