IS anyone else surprised we still celebrate this day given how low on the totem pole 'labor' and 'unions' have become?

Do you think we will eventually get rid of the holiday commemorating these groups as a way of commemorating the way we are getting rid of these groups?

I don't think many people are celebrating 'labor' or 'unions', they just celebrating an extra day off with pay..

I agree with mano, just celebrating a "generic" holiday.

The Unions have become too big...and costly; and the Laborers have become too lazy. Sad day for me. frown

I think a lot of it is inertia. When was the last time a holiday was eliminated? The only thing I can think of is when Washington's Birthday and Lincoln's Birthday were sort of combined into President's Day.

Labor Day has become "the end of boating day in the north, and the end of summer day in general.
