with smart phones and smart cars why does anyone need to be smart anymore

yeah, I think thats kind of scary too

the illusion technology gives the masses that they are making 'progress', when it seems to do just the opposite by diminishing their ability to truly think and perform WITHOUT that technology....

I avoid the government like the plague. I'm so left-wing. lol. It's stupid, having a government who have a lower I.Q than myself. I'd get better intelligence from a loaf of bread, ffs.

harmony I usually agree with you anyway but this time you have touched on something that is simply the soul of humanity and the direction it is headed in

I couldn't agree more! When people freak because they can't imagine a weekend without a cell phone it is defintely time to take that cell phone away from then for a weekend of solitude...

there is nothing that cannot wait.....

If you want to know the reason it seems the populations' collective IQ's are dropping, you need look no further than your local TV guide.

Seriously.

Have you given an objective screening to 95% of the shows on Nickelodeon (for kids) or prime time TV?

Yeah...it's 'funny' or 'cool' to have the IQ of a turnip.

'Reality' shows have us believing it's OK to screw over your neighbor or that it's ok to screw your neighbor's spouse. All for a few minutes of fame and a couple bucks in your pocket.

Political hatemongers from both the conservative and liberal sides of the arena have so many people making their decisions and voting based on their favorite commentator's soundbyte of the day.

From the time we are old enough to press a button on the remote, we are inundated with this crap that makes it seem like it's cool to be stupid and that it's perfectly acceptable to let political hacks do out thinking for us.

[/rant off]

Id be more inclined to believe that exposure to modern television reduces IQ than that mere absorption of flouride does.

But , logically, even the problem with television comes from an INBALANCE in how much is watched(compared to other activities) and what is shown(educational vs prime time vs cable,,etc) and not the mere existence or use(in my opinion)

I agree with MsHarmony that the effect of television depends on how it is used, and how often.

Also, has it even been established that our average intelligence is dropping? I thought that was claimed by volant, who clearly is not investigating his sources very carefully.

Does anyone have any actual evidence on changes in the intelligence of our population over time?

The scary part is our kids on international tests. We were 25th in math in 25 nations, in other words, last. Is this our IQ going down or the teachers or the inundation of tv and video games?

I eat a lot of raw food, and especially enjoy raw almonds. California made truly-raw almonds illegal a while back, to improve food safety. I'm totally opposed to this. I think its sufficient to issue warning labels and let us decide whether we want to take that tiny, tiny risk of eating bad bacteria/fungus.

I tried to find that test, and instead found a lot of different results, for different tests for different age groups in different years... including:

Fifteen-year-olds in the U.S. ranked 25th among peers from 34 countries on a math test and scored in the middle in science and reading, while China’s Shanghai topped the charts, raising concern that the U.S. isn’t prepared to succeed in the global economy.

Wikipedia has a math/science ranking from 1995 with the US as 24th, and one from the 2007 with the US in 11th place. I don't draw any conclusions from this, but it certainly doesn't support the idea that US kids are getting dumber.

Finland used to have awful schools. Now they are some of the best. They stopped standardized tests, sent teachers to certification schools, and probably most important, got parents on board.

the problem is that if the kids got all as and 100s on the tests

the tests are garbage and lies

you brainwash kids and then have tests to see how good they did

i had to learn about evolution and then be tested on it

today the kids learn about global warming and co2 rising creating it

with no other sides to the story

you learned the pyramids were robbed and there was nothing in there but gold and mummys

and you believed it without question

and electric cars dont work

there telling the kids global warming is your fault

there are too many people on earth

clean up the earth as you eat poison foods

drugs are the only cure for diseases

nutrition doesnt matter for health

yep i hope they do good in school

so the can go to collage for more programing

and be a more productive member of society the way it was planned

for them

the more you learn in school the less you have to think for yourself

everything is explained for you

work will set you free

Uhhhmmmm...

Volant...may I suggest the politics forum? They love this kind of thing there. Half the people will back you up using random crap that they Google. The rest will argue using random crap they Google.

Out here, we are a bit more care free.

Cause honestly, I refuse to believe anyone's perception but mine. I eat drink and smoke any damned thing I want...and I am healthier than almost everyone.

honestly, the schools may not be perfect, but education serves much more purpose than 'brainwashing'

I think there is a certain brainwashing going on in society to create people with such extreme paranoia,,,,

Education teaches things which we probably all could find unnecessary , but overall I believe that its better to know more than what you need than to know less

Education prepares kids to deal with obstacles, to APPLY logic, and to appreciate individual differences in a society

Valuabe, valuable, life skills beyond what was in the Pyramids or whether evolution happened,,,,

Parents have to stay on top of those things they feel the school isnt teaching that are important to them,, but Reading, Writing, and Math have always been the building blocks by which we make sure our kids learn and if they are still learning those basics and being taught to expand upon and apply them,,(teaching where we come from is a good one too, without the 'relationship' stuff and alternative stuff added),,its all good

I know many places that arent teaching those basic which I would say are failing their students, but thats not everyplace in America(usually just the places where people are poorest,, which is a shame)

I saw it on YouTube! It has to be real 'cause you just can't fake it if it's on YouTube!

I know this guy who read about a guy that said his cousin met a guy who read about some guy who believes....

IQ's are a dime a dozen....give me EQ over everything...EXPERIENTIAL Quotients are a much more relevant basis on which to compare...

Everything in the mainstream is contrived to sedate, and mollify the masses...

food, media, religion, politiking, society is a constant bombardment aimed to desensitise and sedate...

Eat clean, energetically vibrant foods, and opt out of the drama of the whole production...

and Live.
