On the 19th of August 2011, I officially adopted my 22-year-old foster daughter.

Meet Miss Radiance Aine Robertson:

Radiance is the woman shown with me in one of my profile photos.

My late wife favored Radiance, and my adoption of Radiance is the fulfillment of one of my wife's last wishes.

The following is what I wrote about Radiance on my Facebook account.

---This adoption is rather extraordinary for three reasons:

1) Radiance's 22nd birthday occurred a month before the adoption.

2) Radiance is an African-American, and I am a balding, middle-aged white man.

3) I met Radiance in August of 2009.

---Radiance spent most of her childhood moving in and out of various foster homes. Although she has had contact with her biological father, Radiance never did have a father-daughter relationship with him.

---Radiance's childhood left her yearning for a stable family relationship. When I came along and befriended her, Radiance was one step away from living on the streets. So, my wife and I decided to make Radiance our foster daughter in order to provide Radiance with the love and support that she never had before. One night Radiance told me that she wished that I were her dad. At that time, I could do little for her because I was busy taking care of my wife.

---After my wife died, I began helping Radiance to overcome some serious personal problems. In doing so, Radiance bonded with me the way that a girl is supposed to bond with her father. Radiance normally keeps her emotions bottled up inside her. Yet, when she is with me, or talking to me via telephone, Radiance will let out her emotions. She trusts me enough to cry on my shoulders . . . literally. I don't think she has ever did that with anyone else.

---Radiance has been an emotionally-scarred-and bruised person crying out for real, permanent love from someone. I became that someone.

---What amazes me about Radiance is that she was an adult when she met me, and she could have turned away from me. Yet, she chose to be with me, to trust me, to love me. She chose me to be her daddy.

---I am proud to say that Radiance Aine Robertson is my daughter, and I love her just as if she had been born my daughter.

That is so cool. Radiance is truley a beautiful woman. That is nice of you to adopt her officially even though she is already of age..it gives hope...

It is my goal to adopt an older child later on in my life as well. thank you for giving her hope...she is blessed.
