No it is not racist! We speak English here! Learn it if you want to stay here! How hard is that for people to wrap their minds around??? If you want to live in Mexico you must learn Spanish!

He wasn't picking on anybody!

Not like this band...

I dont think its racist because every 'race' is capable of and does speak english in one region of the world or another.

it seems reasonable though, if this is what is done throughout the world,,,,

can I go to spain and take the drivers test in english? I dont know, but I think that if it is consistent with the rest of the western world, it is fair.

Not racist. How does it affect any particular race? You could say be white from Germany and it would still affect you. It affects all races equally who don't speak English as well as those that do.

I know hundreds who won't even bother to learn English.

That would all change if we adopted English as our official, primary language.

No more Gov. paperwork or Taxpayer money going to hiring interpreters.

Again. What folks do in the private sector is their business. Spanish has no business in Government.

I love it when they claim don't understand a word of English and as soon as they hear the word Police they start speaking like an English professor. laugh

I have a few friends who teach free ESL classes around here. Many show up and actually try hard to learn, but it does take a while.

So, what are you doing to get English to be our official language, since you think that's very important?

I learned German when living in Germany, it wasn't easy.

If you move to another country, learn their basic language.

We came from 13 English colonies, where swedes, germans, italians learned English, so learn English!

Too bad congress has too many liberals that cry unfair.

My french teacher was from Belgium, she didn't speak a word of english before she got here. She said being in a place where everyone speaks english was the easiest way to learn because you learn the slang and in-and-outs of how the language is spoken by native speakers.

I'm speaking of the willingness to learn the native language of the country and not expecting them to cater to you because you are unwilling to learn. Also, if you are willing to learn you don't even need classes, people will help you out. I've been to Mexico and I've never had a spanish class, I attempted as much spanish as I could while I was there. Mexicans would help me out with what I was trying to say, as well as, other tourist that spoke spanish. I probably butchered the language, but I'm sure there were a few that appreciated that I made the attempt. I took the 2 seconds to learn bano, instead of spending 5 min trying to explain myself in english to ask where the bathroom was everywhere I went.

Short answer: Yes, but only because I'm pretty fluent now.

You just mentioned your french teacher, then talked about how you don't even need classes if you're willing to learn, yet you butchered the language. Yes, it's easy to learn a word such as bano. But, you'd have to put much more effort into learning the language fluently. Classes/lessons would certainly help. Just as those I mentioned earlier who take ESL classes around here.

How successful are you going to be living in France and not speaking the language? The point of learning the common language is to increase your chances of being successful. How many jobs are available for people that speak no French in France? I would bet not very many.

My french teacher came here to live here. I, on the other hand, went to Mexico for a weekend. I'm sure she butchered the language here for quite awhile before she got the hang of it. It takes time. Classes are nice for those that can afford them or have the time. I was just saying you don't neccisarily need them to learn a new language if you are surrounded by people that speak it fluently.

I never said that I thought he'd be successful living in France without speaking french. I've never lived in another country, so I can't give my own personal experience. I've just heard from others that it's tough to become fluent in a new language until you're completely immersed in it. That's all I was getting at.

Not racist but bigoted yea a bit.

Not feasible anyway because we do allow people from other countries to have work visas and such here for up to five years and if they need a drivers license during that time then they need to be able to be tested in their language so they can pass the test.

It is the bigoted folks who push for this and let this kind of thing bother them.

All languages should be spoken here in the land of the free especially NATIVE AMERICAN LANGUAGES SINCE THEY ARE THE REAL "OWNERS" OF THIS COUNTRY.
