Something that has recently been happening in the UK.. Kids (yeah kids) have been rioting in the streets of London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Nottingham, Bristol... People being terrorised and intimidated, shops being plundered, homes broken in to and wrecked (one woman even had her 1YO baby taken from her arms in her own home and then somehow miraculously it got return unharmed an hour later), cars torched...

It is said that the majority of the people taking part in these riots are under 18 (then the most of them are around 15-16 years old.

They are protected by law and you can't touch them. Is this a case of under age people having more rights as criminals than those who are affected?

I am interested in your views. Can you punish them? Is it a case of misguided youth? Parents fault? Gouvernments fault for not giving kids enough to channel their energy into?

Cameron said today that anyone, regardless of age, caught rioting or looting will be tried for their crimes.

A certain segment of Western civilization has made the bed, now we all must lay in it.

I'm of the opinion that if someone is doing something like this you should be required to shoot them. The only exception I make is when people stand up to their government and are being riotous.

Shooting rioters didn't work out too well for the Tunisian or Egyptian governments ...

What started as a peaceful protest over the police shooting of a man has spiralled way out of control. Unlike the riots in the middle east there is no political message here, this is simply opportunistic thugs going crazy. I'm shocked at how the violence has spread so fast. (It's also shocking how the Scots are being the model of good behaviour for once ...)

Now, there will doubtless be many factors to blame which led to the riots, but these youths should still be charged to the full extent of he law.

The problem with that is you don't always know why they are doing it.

If the government or police started just shooting them, then their parents might get mad.

It is the public who pay taxes that pays the police. They could start an all out war.

The government is not supposed to be the enemy. Its supposed to be elected officials that are paid by the people to manage society, not control the slaves.

Well that could mean that he almost killed someone or that he was almost killed himself...

I was just wondering which.

The riots are much more involved than just looting and stealing. The riots are but a symptom of a much deeper problem. Society teaches us to want things, to buy things, that the more and 'better' stuff you have, the more valuable a person you are. Teen unemployment rates are above 20% in the UK. They've 'bred' this kind of thinking, this value system into people... then offer little to no ability to acquire these things for the poorest and the less academically minded people...

That's capitalism... it is unsustainable.

My home town had a fair bit of trouble and the town i work in was hit pretty bad. I luckily managed to keep out of the way of it all but i know people that didnt. These people were not protesting against anything, i dont really understand how it all occurred, nobody gives a damn for the drug dealer that the police shot that began the events. Either way, it looks as though most of those that are caught participating in the troubles are going to receive harsh punishment. The harsher the better.
