Economic Terrorism: President Lies About Social Security Checks
July 12, 2011 Listen To It! WMP | Flash Audio clips available for Rush 24/7 members only -- Join Now! BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley talking with Obama. They're gonna air it tonight. Scott Pelley said, "Can you tell the folks at home that no matter what happens, Social Security checks are gonna go out on August 3rd?" Remember, Mr. President, Ramadan is August 1st. There are about $20 billion worth of Social Security checks that have to go out the day after the government is supposed to go into default. OBAMA: Well, this is not just a matter of Social Security checks. These are veterans checks; these are folks on disability and their checks. There are about 70 million checks that go out. PELLEY: Can you guarantee as president those checks will go out on August the 3rd? OBAMA: I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue, because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it. RUSH: That's an out-and-out lie and if I didn't know better I would say the White House gave Scott Pelley a script. If I didn't know better, I would say Scott Pelley, new to the job, shows up and they handed him the script for this interview. That question is such a softball setup: "Can you guarantee, as president, those checks will go out?" "I can't guarantee those checks will go out." They will go out. Social Security is not part of this debt limit talk. Read more at; http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_071211/content/01125110.guest.html |

It's all about this administration picking and choosing winners and loser. Nothing but fear mongering and class warfare to split this country even farther apart then they already have.

is Rush college educated?
or have a background in government/accounting,,,ie,,,? ,,just wondering? The Congressional Research Service, the nonpartisan research arm of Congress, put it this way: "Failing to raise the debt ceiling would not bring the government to a screeching halt the way that not passing appropriations bills would. Employees would not be sent home, and checks would continue to be issued. If the Treasury was low on cash, however, there could be delays in honoring checks and disruptions in the normal flow of government services." This is because the government receives both cash, including tax revenue, and bills at irregular intervals. So it doesn't always have enough cash on hand to pay all its debts at any given moment. (Families and businesses will recognize this as the always-dreaded "cash flow problem.") from politifact.com |

If the debt ceiling was not raised, the president would get to choose who got paid and who did not. There would be plenty of money for Social Security, military, debt service, etc., but some programs would stop as the cash crunch got worse. Within about a month, forty percent of federal expenditures would need to stop probably closing federal parks, stopping foreign aid, perhaps cutting into some entitlement programs, but not social security as it is already funded.
Social Security would have a huge pile of cash in reserve except for the fact that the government keeps borrowing from it. |

It is why the president could easily guarantee that SS would be paid no matter what. |

I find it very I teresting all the talk about SS checks not going out. Now there is no deal passed and singed into law yet. Today in the mail I'm delivering SS checks. Now in order for them to get to me they had to have been mailed out by around Thursday at the latest.
So you tell me. I don't believe for one second that SS checks were not going to be paid out. So IMHO it was all political posturing and fear mongering coming from this administration and the liberals in congress. |

did anyone here ever hear of the amero?this is why our money isnt backed by gold anymore.growing up i never head them saying the currency would crash.now it every year or so.i think if they say it enough people will stop paying attention and not be prepared when they crash it.then you will be payed pennies on the dollar.for fun look to see whats happening in greece.so when ss checks dont go out your money
might already be worthless.and unlike the first depression this will be worldwide.this is why your bombarded with hoarding shows.stuff you dont use everyday throw away they say you will never need it again.untill....i think almost everything in the stores today is junk.everything is cheap plastic so you could never replace what you threw out. |

Lies, Lies, and more Lies... He can't make guarantees; he can't resolve anything; and he can't count. |

did anyone here ever hear of the amero?this is why our money isnt backed by gold anymore. Our money isn't backed by gold because otherwise other governments could turn in cash (promisory notes for gold) and take it out of our country, eventually bankrupting the U.S. |

Lies, Lies, and more Lies...
I'm afraid I missed the lie part. Are you saying he can guarantee that the checks will go out? Are you saying that there actually is] the money in the coffers? I thought you guys were screaming about how bankrupt the nation is. Which is it? |
|
|
|
Im saying he cannot make any of those claims. There is plenty-o-money, the Reserve can just toggle a few bits and all the money magically appears. My point is: Obama lies, or votes Present.. My pet rat - if I had one - could lead this country better. |

I think you did, and we can all see what a fantastic job he did. I find it very I teresting all the talk about SS checks not going out. Now there is no deal passed and singed into law yet. Today in the mail I'm delivering SS checks.
Well, hello, fellow unionized mailman. I don't think you should be so interested. We haven't defaulted yet. |

I concur. Nice to know those Longtime Helpful Liberals are so concerned about Grandpa's SS check. First thing they say, "NO SS money for you..." [damn SN] Not: We're gonna take money from Pakistan, or the Education Department, or the Energy Department or the FDA, or any other AlphaBit soup this over-bloated government invented. If this doesn't frost your hinni, nothing that Marxist does will. |

Well, hello, fellow unionized mailman. I don't think you should be so interested. We haven't defaulted yet. You are right we haven't defaulted yet. The OP was about the president saying SS checks might not go out if we don't raise the debt ceiling by 8/2/11. I'm just stating a fact that they indeed have come out and at the latest would have had to have been mailed out by Thursday of last week. So to me Obama had no I gentoo s of not sending out the checks and was just using them as a fear tactic to try and presure people into voting for something they didn't want. And as for you saying you don't think I should be so interested. Why shouldn't I be this whole deal affects our country and last I checked I am a citizen of this country and I served for this country. So yes I am VERY interested in what goes on in our country. |
|
|
|
I gentoo s? So, you are one of those who believe that there will be no negative impact if they fail to raise the debt limit?
