Topic: What is a thought? | |
---|---|
Are these 'thoughts?"
A notion. An Intention. A visualization. An idea. A perception. (This apple tastes crunchy and juicy and sweet.) An emotion. (feeling) (I'm so angry or happy..) They are not void of thought, but I would not call all of them thoughts. |

Anything one can talk about is a thing.
What if a person cannot talk, or has no language. Example a chimpanzee... does a chimp have thoughts? Does a chimp think? What about a dog? What are their thoughts like? |

I do not think that the objective/subjective distinction can account for all of the different kinds of things. Some are both, some are one or the other, some are neither.
Could you give some examples please? Of all the above mentioned? Facts, quantity, instantiation, the principles/laws of thought, the principles/laws of the universe, properties, and reality are all objective. Opinions, quality, personal preference/taste, compartive analysis, the content of thought, attributes, and ideas are subjective. Morality, trust, and truth are neither. Criterion and meaning are both. |

We cannot say with any significant amount of certainty what their thoughts are like. We can know that they think about things, because it is evident in the behavior. We can know that they hold some rudimentary form of belief. |

They are not void of thought, but I would not call all of them thoughts. Why not? Which ones are not thoughts and why are they not thoughts? It is not so much that they are not thoughts, so much as some of these describe complexities of thought that are not captured by the common notion of what thought is. That is why I said that they are not void of thought, because they all require it. Emotion being the most notable thing here, on my view. Emotion is not thought, however our talking about it requires for us to think about it; we write down our thoughts about emotion. Emotion is not thought however it is reflected in one's attitude. Emotion is not thought, however thought feeds emotion. Emotion is not thought, however it effect/affects thought. Emotion and thought are symbiotic. |

If emotion (I prefer the term feeling) is not thought, then what is it?

Emotion is mental attitude.

How can you separate a mental attitude from thought? It is symbiotic. They are necessarily entwined. We can't separate the two. |

I don't buy it. That's alright, you don't have to. It's free. Should I be charging here? |

Here is how I see it.
The foundation of thought is feeling. It goes like this: 1. Feeling --->2.Thought(mental thinking) ---> 3.emotions -----> 4. Attitude In that order. In anticipation of your next question or objection..... no, feeling is not the same thing as emotion. |

Now I'm going to retire to my couch and watch "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong.

What is "feeling"?

I will tell you what I think it is, but you will have to imagine leaving the human state of consciousness for this trip.
Feeling is the pure joy or sensation of being. It is essentially awareness, but not just through the sense organs, but through vibrations interacting with other vibrations. The vibrations are there even before a living organism evolves. Think of a single celled organism that divides and grows in the ocean and then grows a mouth so it can taste and eat, and grows eyes so it can detect waves of light. An organism manifests sense organs specifically for the purpose of better sensing of its environment and evolves into a more aware adaptable living creature. One has only to look at the millions of amazing and strange creatures living in the ocean to see how they adapt to sense and survive in their environment. This information and 'programming' for life and evolution in contained in DNA. Feelings are the foundation for life and evolution. They are not simply human emotions that are born from thinking. |

The following is how I see life being created in the universe and how 'thought' is the foundation of that process.
The difference between human embryonic stem cells and other stem cells in the body, (and I quote this part) is that embryonic stem cells "don't know what they want to be yet." That is why they are better to use in adapting them for specific purposes in medicine. They can be manipulated. I think DNA is basic, flexible, changeable and adaptable according to environmental stimulation and it provides needed information to cells (organisms) for their development and growth. Like embryonic stem cells, certain DNA 'does not know what it wants to be' but it is adaptable and ready to be what ever it needs to be. All of this is powered by what I call thought or 'feeling" which is the vibration of life that emanates from individual consciousness units in the field. That's getting down to the basic foundation of life. |
