What possible reason is there to hold otherwise?

What possible reason is there to hold otherwise?

... experience?

Have you ever had a feeling that words cannot describe or have you ever seen or imagined with your minds eye a multi-dimensional object that you can't possibly describe or draw because you can only think in 4 dimensions?

How does either one of these amount to anything other than the subject not knowing how to talk about what it is that they are feeling and/or thinking?

What is a thought if it is not to think about something? I mean what is left of a thought if the object of thought is removed?

By "object" does that include imagined geometric shapes?

Yes. The object of thought is whatever you're thinking about.

So then do you agree that thoughts are things?

JB, you do realize that contrary to popular opinion on these boards, a premiss is not necessary to do philosophy?

Really? Well I find it really helps a lot in any argument or discussion to be on the same page. AT LEAST.

For you and me... we are usually in a different book completely, let alone on the same page.laugh laugh tongue2

So we agree that thoughts are 'things.'

So now we need to discover what our position on "things" is.

I think we can agree that a chair or a cup on the table is a thing.

Is an idea a 'thing?"

Is a feeling, a thing?

Is a vision a thing?

Is a memory a thing?

Are these objective things or subjective things?

Using clear and concise terms to get points across usually bridges that gap, assuming of course that both parties know what the other means by their use of said terms and that use remains consistent throughout the discussion.

Are these 'thoughts?"

A notion.
An Intention.
A visualization.
An idea.
A perception. (This apple tastes crunchy and juicy and sweet.)
An emotion. (feeling) (I'm so angry or happy..)

Anything one can talk about is a thing.

I do not think that the objective/subjective distinction can account for all of the different kinds of things. Some are both, some are one or the other, some are neither.

We haven't gotten to communication between two people yet Creative. I am just making sure we agree on what a thought actually is.

Forget 'terms' and and language for right now.

Could you give some examples please? Of all the above mentioned?

Okay we have another agreement. All of the above are things.
