To Roberta and everyone who posted on here for kicking their habits flowerforyou . I smoke cigarettes. Been doing it since I was 15. I've quit on and off through the years; but keep going back. Now my goal is Aug 9th....my 55th birthday. For me it's like a last straw. My lungs are already compromised <without having a doctor tell me>. I am going to do it cold turkey. I'm scared, skeptical of myself, and hardly any self confidence in that area.
You can do this, no sweat babe. First thing you do is get you some of those sucker candies for stop smoking. I used cappachino, and they taste great, and you just suck on them, when you want to smoke.

Keep busy, my smoking is only when I am bored, I only smoke when I drink now, maybe 1 cigarette, and thats like once a month.I like a cigarette with alcohol, and coffee(so I quit drinking coffee).

Make yourself go outside to smoke, if you dont already. It makes it a pain in the azz, to have to go outside everytime you want to smoke.

Be ready to start eating more, when you quit smoking. It happens, again cause your bored. So you will have to monitor that.

Try not to hang with smokers, (my roomates smoked, but I still was able to quit).

You know that ugly cough you have, it will go completely away, when you stop smoking.

And most of all, remember, that the second you quit smoking, your lungs begin to rebuild themselves. This is a medical fact, so its never too late to quit.

Add up all the money you spend on cigarettes in a week, month, year, and think of what else you could of bought with all that money. And its alot!!!And getting worse.

Try to only date, non smokers.

Pray to God to give you the strength to quit. And know, that with his love behind your determination, theres nothing you cant do.And have others pray for you too.(Prayer is stronger in numbers).

Look at your teeth, and think of how much whiter they are gonna be, when you quit smoking. Not to mention, you avoid mouth cancer.

Remember lung cancer kills more people than just about anything else.

Treat yourself, and get your teeth professionally cleaned, right when you quit. They will look so good, you wont want to dirty them up again.

Think of the loved ones who would miss you if you died from cigarettes.

I hope this helps, it helped me. I know you can do this, and so do you!!And never question that for a second!

If you ever need me, im right here, just email me!flowerforyou

I sucked on candy the last couple times I quit smoking and it really does help (it's just not so good for the teeth....). I still keep some in the pack on my bike because well, have you ever tried having a smoke at 65 mph?

Thats some of the lyrics to one of my songs called,"addicted".

I havent been addicted to meth now, for 4 years...

That was one of my first posts here,"NO More Meth Mouth"(I smoked it), and of course, I had no program, or family to help me quit, but I did have the Minglers, cheering me on, and God, and I did it cold turkey, after many years.(I like to tell people this, because maybe it will strike a nerve, and they might say, "if she did it, I can do it",and quit. flowerforyou

But now I cant stop eating big marshmallows, and corn flakes and peaches, and its starting to show!scaredlaugh laugh

What are you addicted to?

So glad to hear you got off the meth addiction. My addiction is working out and dieting. I hate what I see in the mirror and I am always pushing myself to look better; look thinner, look for fit. frown

Are you sure you're not just looking in a fun house mirror? You look fit and beautiful in your pictures. Dieting and working out are good when done properly, but if you're doing it to make yourself like what you see in the mirror, you'll never get to that point, and may even end up doing much more harm than good to yourself. Be happy and healthy, learn to like what you see in the mirror. flowers

Thank you for the kind compliments. I know I should be happy with how I look but I just don't feel that good about myself. You are correct that I have made myself ill a couple of time by pushing myself so hard and I have to be more aware of that. Thanks for the words of wisdom.

Just take it a day at a time, if you can go today without a cigarette, you're good. Sometimes it even helps to take it smaller, if I can get through this hour with out smoking, or even if I can go the next minute with out smoking. That and keep in mind why it is you want to stop, think about the negative things about smoking when you feel the urge to smoke. That's kinda what has helped me. You can do it. flowerforyou

They have a 1 800 number you can call to help stop smoking now.

Thank you! flowerforyou
