Your choice... still, I'd encourage you to try and do what you can in contacting them.
You sem to care about the issue... show them that you care.
The world could do with more of that...
Hell, who knows.... you might even make a friend.

Do whatever seems right in your own mind... no need to worry about what the artist thinks. Other than whatever they posted that you enjoyed... what's their opinion matter, right? drinker

i was getting the impression that the op had already copied and pasted and just wanted reassurance that his decision to so was justified. is that sarcasm i detect in your post mister

haha, well I refuse to respond directly... but I will say that I've been accused of being a wise-azz, and rarley have I been able to argue the point.

Hey guys, I did mention in my post that I researched copyright law a few weeks back, right?

I went to a government website. It told me that any new work of writing posted on a website becomes automatically copyrighted, although not formally registered. Registering grants a higher level of protection because authorship and date becomes much more concrete in many cases.

Why did I research this? Because I was thinking of selling some of my works on Scribd.com. I wanted to know what more about some of the issues I might face.

I went to school for writing, and I hope to someday become published. When writing prose, I blend in poetry much like Tolkien did, so if I post a poem online, there is a chance that it might be published within a work of fiction someday. That means I could run into copyright issues if someone tries to steal my poems. However, I know that my poems in the public forum can be traced back to my name and with a time stamp predating anyone else's use.

That being said, in this day and age, the professional poet can rarely hope to make much more than a few hundred dollars each year from his writings. There isn't much of a demand for poetry, unless you are a songwriter or write gift cards.
