I think there are many people who don't know how to be authentic or true to themselves.

I have always made an effort to be true to myself and be authentic. If you are keeping a huge secret that is ruining your life, that could well... ruin your life.

that seems reasonable,, except that i believe the 'self' is constantly changing

so which self should I be 'true' to and for how long, the self right now,, the self I was five days ago, the self I will be in five weeks from now..

or is being true to ourself just following our conscious as it exists in the moment?

Oh I totally agree. Self is always changing, evolving etc. I used to ask, "How can I be "myself" if I don't know who I am?"

I think your last statement is right on. Being true to ourselves begins with being honest with ourselves and following our conscious as it exists in the present moment.

Every moment can be a spiritual awakening.

It brings something else to my mind.

If someone brings up your past, or something you did or said.. in your past, you can always say what I say.

"That was then. This is now."

I am not the same person now as I was then.

I know who I am in this moment and I am authentic and true to myself.

I was with the same man for 20 years - married for 17 of them. Figuring out who I am as "not part of a couple" has been interesting, scary, also comforting (as in YES I existlaugh )

but I really do not like being single - I like including in my definition of self being part of a man's life & vice versa

now I know I will prolly get slammed for saying that - but it's honest anyway

and for the first few yrs after my divorce I really wasn't sure if I did want that - so it's been a journey these last few yrs

I was once in court and a lawyer asked me a hypothetic question that began...

"...what would you do in such and such situation if it happened to you.."

I answered:

"It would depend on my state of mind at the time."

No you apparently did not watch the video.

It is NOT about any dating guru who teaches losers to attract women.
Before you make statements like that you should watch the video.

That's a good idea, Jeanniebean. I think for the sake of those who may unwittingly make statements like that, you must or should write down all the statements that are like that. Without exception. All of them, in alphabetical order.

Then if we want to make a statement before watching a video, we could check our statement against your list, and if the statement is on your list, we could wait to make them until after we have watched the video.

Under the circumstances, which is that you tell us what to say and what not, I think this is the fairest solution to handle the poor suckers who are going about, making statements, and not having watched the video.

And don't depend too much even on yourself to tell you that information, because you may want to hold it back, for more than one possible reasons: You don't want to scare yourself, you want to sleep well that night, or you know that you are too young still to know that about yourself, at that stage of the game.

I watched, enjoyed.
His story of his friend in the bad marriage reminded me of the posts about divorce the other day...

An old concept...the truth shall set you free.

It is a painful experience...

Once it's 'over'..there is nothing anyone can say to you or about you that you haven't already done to yourself, no one can hurt you anymore.

I guess that's part of the 'liberation'.

Her statement was either a lie or the opinion of a person who DID NOT WATCH THE VIDEO.

She also called it BS, and she obviously didn't even watch it.

I found it very uplifting, that is why I decided to share it.

I knew that all along. That is not my objection. I object to anyone telling anyone else to "shut up". Or "not say this" or "not say that". Or "only say that if [conditon]". I condone your pointing out the wrongfulness of the statement of another poster, but I protest against anyone ordering anyone else here on the forums to keep quiet.
