Its a step in the right direction. Way to dangerous and expensive for everyone but 1 cure is better than no cure.

This site never ceases to amaze me. People still yelling about repubs and libs or about Eminem and Audi but not 1 person cares about the first person to be cured of AIDS.

Really people should be ashamed.

its not really a cure unless they are going to get that one percent to all repeatedly give bone marrow transplants

I was already aware of a minute portion of the population having immunity,,,

In my line of work, we talk about these things everyday. I'm here because I want to relax and have a fun chat. If I want to talk about Science or Politics, I sit down with my "real life" friends and have a civil and educational discussion. It's a learning experience rather than an irritating one, which is what I have gathered is the usual atmosphere in most forum threads. :)

Personally, I'm not a fan of transplants as a means to cure. Aside from a high rejection percentage or an extremely expensive price tag, it encourages a darker side in the industry.

I understand you don't want to but not a single person. And this is a start to the cure. If people can say clone an organ why can't they clone marrow? I am not saying anytime soon but that isn't really science fiction. Its a question of when. Find a few 1% and extract the marrow and clone it and boom massive cure. It will take time to bring the cost down but all that is is time. I still think its an Amazing thing.

1 life saved is 1 life saved. I bet some of you would have a different opinion about it if a person you knew was cured with this treatment. Then that 1 life wouldn't seem so meaningless.

my brother works in clinics where HIV patients are abundant,, I have heard an ABUNDANCE of stories, as Im sure many people have

this is not the FIRST time a so called 'potential' cure has been reported,,,,

when they find an 'absolute' cure,,this is right now an Isolated case which could have had any number of contributing factors or it could even be a false negative at this time making the subject APPEAR cured

, Im sure people will hoop and holler a little more when it is definitively proven that the cure is known,,,

and even if they did respond on this thread, whats left to say?

a thread full of 'great' 'way to go' responses?

He has no replicating virus and he isn't taking any medication.
It isn't a potential cure. They have used it successfully.

HIV is a retrovirus. Retroviruses don't kill people.

Thats like saying not riding in a car is the cure from dieing in automobile accidents. Sure it might be true but people are not gonna stop driving just like they will not stop having sex.

Thats like saying drunk drivers don't kill people. They are killed by the impact of the car. The drunk driver is the reason the car hit them just like HIV is the reason other infections kill them.

plenty of people choose not to ride cars

plenty choose to raise their risks significantly through unprotected sex

the jury is out, IM sure as to whether the bone marrow was the ONLY reason for this 'recovery',,,, I will waith for further development to become excited,,,

No, it's like saying "This guy didn't crash into anybody last night, he's been in a coma for 10 years!" and then you say "He woke up for long enough to climb into a car, run somebody over and then he returned the car and returned to his coma bed before anyone found out he was missing."

And plenty of people choose not to have sex but they don't do it to not get aids just like I am sure must people don't avoid cars because they are afraid of a wreck. But sure if you want the human population to die out lets all stop having sex. Stop living in the south because there is a chance you will die in a hurricane, stop living in Cali because of chances of earth quakes, stop living in tornado ally because of chances of tornadoes, etc, etc, etc.

That makes no sense. In my analogy the both people are on the road driving. If there is no alcohol(HIV) involved they don't wreck. But when it is involved their risk of dying from something that is typically safe skyrockets. Thats what HIV does. It doesn't kill just like the alcohol doesn't kill but it is the cause of the death.
