Topic: How Republican Governors Get Around

i think he's mad because a governor used a state owned helicopter to go to his sons baseball game...governors are very busy, and he took time to go to his sons baseball game, to spend some time with his son and support the team, but that pisses art off for some reason...

I don't know why you would think I am mad. I think it's wonderful that a Governor who has no scheduled events except to have dinner with some big Iowan Republican donors is able to live in such grand splendor on the taxpayer's dime. I've heard that most states carefully audit the use of taxpayer resources by elected officials for personal business. It's very fortunate that New Jersey is so generous with its resources after firing all those teachers.

After all, Christie could be out next President. Like Obama, he would be perfectly entitled Secret Service protection. I hardly think that Christie is nearly of that kind of stature. Obama really had no option, now did he?l

You're the one who brought up Obama and Sacha's basketball team. Not me. I understand that Conservatives couldn't give a crap when somebody else beside them is getting screwed, but if Christie somehow magically becomes President, it will be my tax money too.

Well then, what about Obama using national resources to coach his daughter's basketball game and attend most of her games? If your gonna attack one you better attack both.

what national resources are you referring to?

The only thing this story talks about is that he flew in and flew out.

The underlying assumption everyone is using is he flew from the office to the game and back again.

He left in the 5th inning in the helicopter.

Obviously he didn't have time to drive to the game.

There is one other possibility everyone is ignoring here. He could have been on his way to a meeting, as evidenced by his leaving at the 5th inning and his sons game was on the way.

It is very possible he finished what he was doing early enough to make his sons game (touched down just before it started) but didn't have time to sit through it as he had another meeting.

Is it wrong to take a side trip to support your son?

The story is implying he specifically took the helicopter ONLY to attend his sons game. It doesn't say what he was doing before or where he was or what he was doing after or his destination.

Why is everyone assuming he used the helicopter specifically for personal reasons and nothing more.

How many people have taken a company car to run a personal errand as a side trip between meetings???

I honestly have never had that type of position, and the positions I have had have caused me to be CERTAIN that anything that could possibly be even PERCEIVED as non business use of business resources would get me immediately fired

but, I do realize, there are different rules for different 'status',,,

Mylifetoday may have a valid point, but we likely will never know the real answer.

I do know that it costs $200-$300 per hour to run a state-owned helicopter. (At least, that's what it costs for the State Police chopper in Connecticut.) Given salaries and limits for New Jersey Governors, Chris Christie is likely making $150,000 per year. That's about $3000 per week. So if this was purely for personal use, then the state auditor should withhold the cost of the chopper's use from the Governor's pay. It's called accountability.

As long as he reimburses the State of New Jersey (through withholding of pay), then why shouldn't he be allowed to use the helicopter to see his son's ballgame when his schedule is too tight to allow him to drive instead?

You people need to do a little research into the story. He paid for it. Not the tax payers.

You people need to do a little research into the story. He paid for it. Not the tax payers.
I actualy read the article it says the fat slob flew in with no meeting of importance scedualed that day and was greeted by a **LIMO**(see definition below) of all things to be driven one hundred yards to the game. Flanked by body guards he watched the five innings of the game.

"According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Christie landed in the state's $12.5 million helicopter just before the game began, buzzing over the trees in left field and distracting spectators. The GOP governor then got into a black sedan with tinted windows, which drove him about 100 yards to the baseball diamond"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_theticket/20110601/ts_yblog_theticket/chris-christie-takes-state-helicopter-to-sons-baseball-game

He at first refused to pay for his illegal use of the helicopterthen agreed to pay after the media got hold of it.

Mr. Christie insisted that he had done nothing wrong and that he had made the payments — a day after his office said he would not — just to put to rest an issue that suddenly dominated news coverage in the state.

Had this been a democrat fox news would play it "what if there had been a disaster and that police chopper was needed for an emergencey and it was at a baseball game" The stupified wing of the republican party would be all over it.
*A side note, to republicans a limo is defined as a black sedan*

no, i didn't say anything about his daughters...i think it's a waste of money, but i could really care less, same as any liberal doing it to.

but, if you want to see some real money being wasted, here is what obama's stimulus was paying for....

Thanks for being so fair and balanced.

When Obama went on date night, you had a price tag for it and demanded a response from the president.

When Christie used a helicopter, you brushed off the price tag as "not a huge cost" when compared to other things.

I have respect for Christie but this was flat out dumb.. It's showing that he's really no different. I have to laugh that you're sweeping this story under the rug especially when Christie lied to you about coming on your show. I guess this is just one of those fox things where a memo was sent out to not "really" cover the story.

Secret Service, other law enforcement, Military Man and equipment power, Federally owned vehicles.

Not to mention US Air Force aircraft used to transport his kids to England to they could see the set of Harry Potter 7 on their birthdays or the Secret Service and the Military closing off a major beach in South America so Michelle and her friends could go for a swim.
