Family, friends remember HPD officer struck, killed on the North Loop
Prosecutors: Illegal immigrant accused in officer's death is a member of MS-13


HOUSTON—Funeral services are under way for an HPD officer killed in the line of duty after being hit by an alleged drunk driver, who was also in this country illegally.

Services for HPD Officer Kevin Will began at 10 a.m. at the Champion Forest Baptist Church located in the 15500 block of Stuebner-Airline Thursday.

Officer Will, 38, was at the scene of a motorcycle accident on the North Loop near Yale when Johoan Rodriguez, a twice-deported illegal immigrant, ran through the barricade and struck him, killing him instantly.

Prosecutors said police had the freeway blocked off while they were investigating the earlier accident and interviewing witnesses, but Rodriguez ignored the barriers and tore through the scene at a high rate of speed.

One of the officers at the scene hopped in a cruiser and attempted to pull Rodriguez over, to no avail.

"This defendant proceeded going at a high rate of speed; he did not slow at all. He struck Officer Kevin Will, who was speaking with a witness, killing him instantly and dragging his body for a long distance," Prosecutor Catherine Evans said to a Harris County judge at a hearing for Rodriguez.

Evans said when police took Rodriguez to the hospital, he was not aware that he’d been in an accident.

She said his blood-alcohol level came back at a .238 – three times the legal limit, and officers found .3 grams of powder cocaine in a baggie in Rodriguez’s pocket.

Rodriguez has since been charged with intoxication manslaughter, but his immigration status and alleged gang affiliation has caused a firestorm in the community.

Prosecutors claim that Rodriguez had been deported twice and was a member of the MS-13 gang.

Here in California they want to give financial aid to Undocumented Workers. There is a bill on the floor here and I am so stupefied that our "Leadership" just doesn't get it. I wish the big one would strike harder than in Japan and wipe San Francisco and Sacramento off of the map! We can't balance our budget and we got to give more money away to people who don't belong here? WTF?!?!?!

THe reason to enforce immigration is CREDIBILITY and CONSISTENCY.

ITs preposterous to send the message we are sending now. ITs kind of like saying

its illegal to rob a bank, but if you happen to rob a bank and then be 'productive' for a long enough time, we will let you keep the money and all its perks for a small fee(punitive fine)

oh and if you are a PARENT who stole the money and used it to send your child to school where they have made friends and attachments, we wont DISRUPT their life by putting you in jail

and if ENOUGH people get away with stealing money, because we cant afford to take care of their children, we will just let it go so the children wont suffer

There is no justification for allowing criminal conduct in any way shape or form. Oddly I am stunned you at least see those two points but you also forget the impact on our infrastructure and our social programs meant for us as well as what it does to our finances and accountability. "Undocumented Workers" is just a PC title for Illegal Immigrants. Breaking the law is breaking the law whether or not people are hurt in the process. What I read in the news today just pissed me off even more. I want to go to Sacramento and give those azzholes a piece of my mind so badly!

California being the most liberal state uses their state money to help visitors to that state. It is the people who vote to do it so it is their business.

No federal money is allowed to be used for that cause.

As to the OP, it is sad that a person gets hit by a car whenever it happens and be it a drunk driver who shouldn't be on the road or whoever shouldn't be on the road.

Why are illegal Immigrants here still? Why is it California wants to spend MORE money we DON'T have on the undeserving?

There is no reason why any of the illegal immigrants can't legalize themselves unless they are Career Criminals!
