so ironic, from a culture which would condone 'BEATING THE CRAP' out of someone who burns a flag,,,

whats symbolically important from one culture to the next might change, but their barbaric reaction to offenses apparently doesnt

Your comparison in "degrees of barbarity" is hardly compelling.

A "culture" which would condone.. The entire culture? Part of it? A few random fringe elements?

You realize that flag burning here is legal, right?

Women driving in Saudi Arabia is illegal..

Do we chop off the hands of thieves?

Chop off the heads of drug dealers?

Is adultery illegal and punishable by death?

Are honor killings accepted practice?

A compendium of barbarity and justified retribution?

Do who chop of the wieners of rapists? (Actually, I agree with that one)

is this thread about the penalty for raping or the penatly for driving illegally?

I think we also have different standards for the two offenses...

This thread is about the many human rights voilations of Islam, and how we need to hold Saudi Arabia to task.

oh, and I thought it was an expression of outrage that women should be beaten for driving, since that was SPECIFICALLY what the OP story was pertaining to,,,

It's an expressions of outrage how women are treated in general in Islam. This is just another fine example how it is a religion of human rights violations and abuses.

what was posted is an example of people OVERREACTING To what offends them, which isnt exclusively a muslim trait

women are treated, by and large, how they ALLOW themself to be treated, unless enough can get together and fight against it

perhaps there is too much fear for them to challenge the 'rules' or perhaps there is just (gasp and awe..) an agreement with things the way they are

we largely accept in our culture women and men using their bodies as bartering tools, for sex, for drugs, for money, on the grounds that it is 'their' body

would it be 'barbaric' or 'abusive' to put in place laws that would deter that type of activity? is it abusive to take away what is 'wanted' or is it abusive to take away what is 'needed'?

I just have different standards and I see that our culture is not the only or best one to live within, although it is what I and my life have caused me to become comfortable in

and if the majority there are comfortable in their lifestyle, why should we be interfering?

They should teach the women to drive and shoot. smokin

I agree.

You know what is strange about this is that there are women who actually convert to this severe type of this from western culture. They buy into that good ole Christian/Islamic ideal that women are second to men and are there for the subservient duties.

I guess they feel that a man should make all the choices for them.

But that is not okay for all women.

Women are still fighting for their rights all over the world. We take it for granted here because we are a bit advanced of them in the progress for women but it is not even done here yet.

Another sad day for women who live in that part of the world. I hope future generations will change such laws and mentalities to ensure women can enjoy life just as much as the men can.

I want to mention that not all Muslim countries are so radical. If we look at Turkey we don't have such laws and the women drive cars over there. Each country is different when it comes to the rights for women. I hope they will change in the future to where women have the same rights as men one day.

agreed, but Saudi Arabia is arguably the worst of them all...

And to think, we kiss their a$$e$.

In none of the churches I have ever gone to have they said women are second to men. Only Islam teaches that, well kind of, in Islam dirt is treated with more respect then women.

She is female. I don't know her name, but the female goddess of this universe is called Shekinah. She is the consort of Yahweh. They must have had a falling out or gotten a divorce because she is pissed.

They only play that equal card when it benefits them.
