to have a president that has actually held another job other than something in politics. I mean I wouldn't care if they flipped burgers in their teen years. A person who actually knows what it's like to live on a budget. A person who had to work a little in the real world, maybe then they wouldn't take the average citizen for granted.

There are probably a million holes in this theory and I'm sure some of you will love pointing them out! But this is just an idea, so instead of pointing out the things you see wrong with it, why not expand on it and give a solution.

I agree. We have one who studied law and was a lawyer, a community organizer, and served on boards of several community based organizations. Having a mom who has also served on such boards, they are indeed 'jobs' to be taken seriously and respected, not to mention summer jobs he held through college.

I kind of think I enjoy having a president who isnt just born into privilege but has to earn it, like earning magna cum laude at harvard law and reaching out to the community when it would have been just as easy to sit back and live high on the hog.

I like to see evidence that they give a damn and can sacrifice for others.

I agree, politicians shouldnt have been 'career' politicians with no other qualifications, but I dont think that such a thing has been true of any president in my lifetime. Even Bush was lead of some sports team for a while.

I'm with you guys! It would be wonderful to have someone in office
who could relate to, and be in touch with ,the average American who struggles to
live and work everyday.happy

they also need to know whats involved in the job though

what other position takes into account what OTHER experience you have beyond what is needed in the job?

I think a president should have social and leadership skills, as well as knowledge of government and the constitution, and an ability to be objectively concerned with more than just one 'type' or 'class' of person...

Agreed, but as of late, these government in general seems to have lost touch with anyone not pulling down $400-500 grand a year.

Nah, Trump was born into money it's all he has ever known via his father Fred Trump, who was a wealthy real estate tycoon.
