I prefer Windows, although I haven't had too much exposure to Apple's OSX.

Also, I would prefer Linux to both of these if I could get all my games working.

Linux is one of the oldest, but most stable operating systems, there's many variations of it, and you can get many versions for free. Many are also open source. It's not as user friendly as Windows, but that's one of the things that makes it better, because not as many people use it, it's not as vulnerable to malware.

If you would like to step into the world of Linux, I would say Unbuntu is a great start.

Well.. I don't like apple because a lot is somewhat hidden and UI controls are so small and hard to find. There's only one mouse button and then there's this control-click thing..Instead of a desktop, you get this scrolling thing at the bottom.. I just don't have a taste for it and think the UI controls are very badly placed.

I've never tried Linux, but I may on some rainy day.

Windows has a lot of issues and I don't understand the logic behind some of its framework, but its the one that I have the most knowledge and experience with and can get to work no matter what.

yup also do not know a lot about macs - used them ages ago for educational purposes and they are the machines for the graphic arts and educ. software gurus

not impressed w/ safari

dual linux & windows - usually do office stuff/docs/pdfs on linux side on open office- usually surf the net on linux- it's lightweight and fast

unless I'm doing something in conjunction with a media app. then Windows because I use windows for most media and game applications. 7 touch screens are pretty impressive

so yeah, in general I switch sides depending & love having both

always thought about getting a mac machine just to have one

I use Kubuntu for web design. Mac for music production. And Windows for programming. Every OS has something to offer. It's pretty ignorant to say one OS is better than the other. If that were the case, then everybody would just use one. Sure you may say that Windows has the largest market share but it has been steadily declining. All other OS's are becoming more business and user-friendly and are appealing to more people.

I'm very curious about this thing, although saying that "there is nothing installed on your PC and everything is on the web" scares me.
What if I want to edit documents, photos etc and a storm knocked out the cable or I miss a few payments and they pull my net connection?

All the way to Ohio?

I got a apple Mac laptop for Christmas & I have 3 window computers I use them all for different things .......just wondering what do you prefer?

I think Apple computers are unnecessarily too expensive, but there is no denial, they are quite reliable.

It's great for people, who are sick of Windows and don't want Linux and like simplicity.
On the other hand the Apple OS is actually based on the Linux OS as well.

It's based on BSD, actually.

Actually (Wiki) "Darwin is an open source POSIX-compliant computer operating system released by Apple Inc. in 2000. It is composed of code developed by Apple, as well as code derived from NeXTSTEP, BSD, and other free software projects.

Darwin forms the core set of components upon which Mac OS X, Apple TV, and iOS are based. It is compatible with the Single UNIX Specification version 3 (SUSv3) and POSIX UNIX applications and utilities"

Me personally? I use MAC, specifically iMac, MacBook, and iPad... I used to have an iMac and a PC - but after the PC sitting in a room all by itself collecting dust - I made the shift totally to MAC (OS X)...

Although I must say, I don't play PC based computer games - which is the big thing that allowed my transition totally to MAC. If I were an avid PC gamer, I would still have both.

Is DOS based off Linux?

good question...

No, it was not. There is some inuendo about DOS being a derivitive of unix, I think because Microsoft at the time developed and sold Xenix (on of the most used Unix variants at the time)...

Seattle Computer Products created "Q-DOS" - microsoft eventually bought them (SCP), which ended up as what we all know as MS-DOS, Microsoft developed MS-DOS (in conjuntion with IBM) to be used in the IBM PC. DOS is actually more like "CP/M" (most familiar in the Commodore Vic-20, 64 and Amiga) - another 8-bit computuer operating system.... and was written so that CP/M software could be more easily ported to MS-DOS...

Oy Vey!... clear as mud! LOL...
