I;m a fan of the old fashioned names like Jason Jack, James for a boy

and Kylie Kristen, Kaylie for a girl
The is we already have a James,John and Joseph in the family. My daugther-in-law doesn't like my name Ruby Delois, she named her daugther Kalena Elizabeth. I really can't think of anything to put with Ruby or Delois. Someone came up with the name Sarabeth, after a song by Lonestar[ I think]. grumble grumble Don't like it and I think the song is sad..

what about ruby rose
or
ruby jewell

ruby christine

i knew 2 people that had the name ruby
one girl i went to high school with
and the other was a old lady who was my neighbor when my daughter was little

I'm not a big fan of names where it sounds like the parents are trying too hard to be different. I'd probably also not use names that are very common as well.

Perhaps what sounds to you to be trying too hard, is a cultural thing...

Australia is not a predominantly christian country...we are a country of every other culture...including our Indigenous..and our children's names reflect that..

perhaps some of the names sound strange to an American's ears...and sounds run of the mill here in Australia.

I'm not saying people should not use the the names they choose just because someone else doesn't like them. Those just aren't the types of names I'd use if/when I have children. That's all. Also there are many Americans who choose strange names, too.

Most people I know do not let everyone know the names they've chosen for their children until after they're born. Part of the reason, I think, is because they don't have to hear "I don't like that name!" if others don't like it.
