Australialove love Its the land of the crazy, but a lovely spot to stay,, Our city brings in a lot of overseas workers. as its hard up here to get people to stay, we are sort of the top of nowhere...

Yours is the only Australian city that can proudly say...today's weather will be a high of 32 and late storms...ALL year round! laugh

Not only that, Darwin is the city of culture...a real gritty on the streets culture...every culture coexists along side each other, and your Markets at the Pier are the best in the world!

Darwin is the place where pretensions melt away...(it's too friggin humid)laugh ...there is absolutely NO need to be fake up there...every single darwinian I have ever met, there and here, have been the MOST down to earth real people you would ever meet!

The "evolving Australian city" at work.

Even more so Darwinian... Darwin was backward, too. He mistook what he saw for truth, because, frankly, the truth is that God created the heaven and the earth and all creatures on it in six days, some five or six thousand years ago.

So... (snicker) backwards is also a place which can bear Darwin's name proudly.

There is also a Darwin in Peru, which is a turtle, and belongs to my grand niece.

What I have encountered in the last two years is that I don't have the degree or certifications saying I can do the job that I have done for the last 12 years.slaphead

Many want that piece of paper saying you can work in a office ect in order to hire you.....slaphead

I finally did get another job but............it is frustrating when you can do the work and they want that piece of paper to go along with what you know...whoa

This is what I'm finding too. Real world experience means little anymore.

In my line of work, it seems harder to get a job if you don't have several years of experience. I'm looking to get more into project management and most want more years experience than what I have. So, I guess it depends on the field of work.

Oh my.

What did I say again?

Somebody, please teach me how humans think, and what the difference is in a thing that makes them feel insulted or makes them feel poked fun of in a friendly way.

I will never learn!!! Gaaaa'!!!

I will either continue my life inadvertently insulting people, or else I shall go and shut up and drown my sorrows in blue leafs of the tanglo tree.

Really. I feel ashamed, and I don't even know why. But I take your word that I insulted half a dozen continents' worth of people with one bad joke. Except I don't know where I went wrong, while everyone else knows.

Grrrr.

Bummer what I should have said was you didnt say anyting that was insulting, we are a little backward in a good way.
Our life is much simpler and I am proud of it.
I am proud of the fact thatr we have to many jobs and not enough workers. iots a bummer, but I like that not everyone wants to live here, cause we just are not crowded.
I love that we can think ans say what we think without anyone feeling insulted its just who we are..
and it is a pretty neat way to live.

Well, if I was looking for someone to hire they would have to meet the following:
1) knowledge in the work the person is applying for but doesn't necessarily have to have a diploma or degree.
2) a non-smoker
3) person in general in good health
4) person could not be a single parent
5) have some leadership quality
6) have excellent references
7) have initiative

Non Smoker?

Why? That would allow an imminently qualified candidate to be disqualified by a personal bias.

I kinda butted heads with our new mgr over a similar issue. He was having a hard time dealing with my excessive personality and leaked word to a co-worker that I was on the chopping block for being mouthy.

I confronted him about it and pointed out that not only did I have the best record in the company but in the state of Texas for FDA federal and state health and quality inspections as well as operating to the efficiency point that allowes our branch the highest margin of profit amongst all the branches of our company.

"I may be a mouthy prick but, I am good enough at my job to get away with it." "You need to decide if you are gonna let your personal opinion is gonna over ride the fact that I am the best man for this job."

Now, that he is actually learning the industry, he IS realizing that while I may not be his ideal boot licking crony...I AM a great employee that makes his job a hell of a lot easier to accomplish.
