Eh, my family is weird, so I'm sure he'd have good reason.

I agree. My immediate family (siblings) growing up were all boys. I have heard them say of dad 'hes not my father' and Ive heard my dad say 'hes not my son',,,,,usually in the heat of a big disagreement or as an impulsive reaction to hurt feelings

they were only words , at the end of the day, that didnt manifest in any real or significant way,,,, we all could still turn to dad when times got rough and we all cried when we lost him......words hurt, but as time passes, they lose their impact(or at least they should) when they are replaced with new words,,

I would be really sad. It's one thing to kick someone out of the house and let them find themselves on their own, especially if they are being disrespectful(dont bite the hands that feed you?) But to disown, that's like a permanent slap in the face. . .Its a very harsh term...DISOWN--

If i was a parent and had difficulties with my children, i would let them venture out on their own, and let them know i will no longer enable them let them see the error of their ways....and hopefully one day they will return back to the family having learned some values..

I'm also thinking I'm glad I didn't grow up in a Jewish home where strawberries were being rationed.

Ah... another well-timed acknowledgement of my existence. Thank you, thank you, thank you, ma donna di mia dolce vita, molto bellissima!!

If it were my Dad I'd laugh and then spend the next few hours listening to him rant about what my sibling did! If it were me he was disowning, it usually goes a little like this...dad-"why did you hang up on me (or walk away from)? me-"cause you're being an azzwhole & I don't like to speak to you like that!" dad-"well then don't come around here and pretend you're not my kid" me-"sure I can do that"...a few days later, while I am over visiting mom...dad-"baby girl you know daddy loves you and he's sorry he made you mad, but some times you should just listen to your old man here" me-"okay daddy, and if you stop acting like an ***, I will stop telling you that you are one :)!"

I was always the only kid that would tell him chit like that and somehow, always his favorite :)

DISOWN TO ME IS HARD I AM GAY AND MY FAMILY DISOWNS ME CAUSE THAY SAY I AM AN EMBARRASSMENT SO I AM STILL NOT ALLOWED BE AROUND THEIR HOUSE FOR AWHILE AND IT MEANS SEPARATION OR CUT FROM THE PICTURE!

Its their loss and you can count your family as those who love you.

We can't always pick our family, but we can pick our friends.
