Yep. I like to post updated pictures and I hate to ask someone to take my pic from time to time.

Also, I tend to take my pic right after waking up and I am the earliest riser so no one to ask. laugh

My question to the OP would be why do some people post pictures of things other than themselves?

Or of other people, like celebrities....?

Remember when we had the girl here who was pretending to be Michelle Trachtenberg? And using her pictures? Well, that didn't last long....

On another site, I'm using a pic of my new book as my profile pic. How egregiously promotional! But usually I use a real one of myself.

Or a llama....

There was this girl who had pictures of a porn star as her profile picture. I recognized the face because I saw it once in my brother's computer wallpaper. She deactivated recently. Are we obligated to report those accounts if they are still active?

I'm aware of that probability, which is why I directed the question to a moderator, but thanks for your input.

My understanding is that, while the site owners and admins prefer people using their own (real) pics, there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the rules. Hence you don't see anyone's account deleted for using a picture of a cat or a sunset or a boat as their main pic.

Celebrity pics aren't generally a problem unless a.) the person is claiming to be that celebrity, or b.) the person is trying to sell something by using that identity or imagery. In either case, that should be reported immediately -- at the very least, there is a deceptive element involved.

But I have seen celebrity pics used in a harmless manner as well -- to give an example, there was a running gag on here back in 2007 about one of our members (hi, Whisp!) having a Bob Saget poster in her bathroom. I used a pic of Bob Saget as my main pic for a little while. I never claimed to BE Bob Saget (although, after seeing him on "Entourage," maybe I should be him) and I don't think anyone got that impression. It was all just joking around.

I think the bottom line would be that if you suspect someone is trying to deceive, report it. We have procedures in place to deal with these kinds of questions, and our people upstairs are really good at addressing these problems!

Yeah, I didn't say anything because I'm well aware that almost all of us, at one time or another have posted pictures that are not ours. Good examples are what you stated above, pictures of landscapes or cartoons. The one I'm referring to, though, used it and claimed it as if it were her own. Thanks for clearing that up, Lex!

I am usually by myself and so unphotogenic that it takes probably 20 pictures before I get one I like. It's lame, but I don't want to put someone else through having to take that many pictures.

I don't like taking pictures of myself.

They seem fake and pretentious to me.

The pictures others take of me capture who I really am. Because those are taken during real life moments. Not at a point where I am consciously taking my own photo to demonstrate something of myself.

I generally will only take my own picture if I am dressed up or in a way I like when there is no one else available. But still, I find it very hard to take my own photo where it looks real and good.

Why do you think it's pretentious? Do you think other people are pretentious for taking their own pictures?

The woman that broke up my last relationship used pics of models here on Mingle. She came here promoting websites. I don't know if she's still doing it. Most of her profiles have been deactivated. Sadly, apparently she was genuinely interested in me, and became jealous when I hooked up with someone else. Turns out she has used a number of false IDs on Yahoo to try to contact me too. She also has fake profiles on Facebook.

Now she has disappeared again. I hope this time she stays gone.
