Is it possible to over use lip balm, such as to prevent cold sores?

A lot of people habitually use "lip balm".

It's like they think their lips will fall off if they don't put it on
every five minutes.

But, could it cause a problem or anything? For example, could it become ineffective towards the treatment/prevention of cold sores if over used?

Other than making you look like an idiot, not really.

A cold sore is a virus Totage that usually stays dormant in your body until your defenses are compromised. Stress is a major factor in "bringing out" a cold sore. I would try and concentrate more on the inside...eating good, drinking plenty of water, good mindset happy

Yeah, Carmex is only a dollar something for three sticks, and they last a long time. They seem to work too, just wondering of there's such a thing as over using it.

I was reading an article that some people get addicted to lip gloss and lip balms. Some of it is due to the flavoring. And some of it anxiety issues!
I have known many people that have many favors with them at all times.

I read eating too many cashews can cause cold sores.

but to answer your q. NO, lip balm, even when used in excess can not cause them...unless you are sharing said lip balm, then all assurances are off.

I think i misread. If you do have a cold sore, do not use lip balm. it will not help, and the repeated rubbing of the cold sore can do more harm than good.
