Topic: Anger is a gift. | |

I saw this carved on a table. So, how can anger be a gift?

Anger can indeed be a motivator. It is a step up on the emotional ladder from chronic depression. |

|
Actually at times it takes making one mad before they will get motivated enough to do what they need to do.....

I learned one hard lesson well: When you gift someone with anger, don't include the bill!! That way they are unable to return it.

Anger can indeed be a motivator. It is a step up on the emotional ladder from chronic depression. Anger is what motivates us to stop injustices against ourselves and others. |

Hmmm...I always ask myself prior to reacting.... ...where is this 'anger' coming from? Is it really anger? Is it really a motivator?..I appreciate it can be for many, however for me, I find reactive negative emotion like anger is rarely caused by the obvious trigger, and is usually underlaid by something else. An example, I got quite agitated by a thread in Current events on Japan...and attempted to muster up fury, or outrage...or as we sometimes call it, anger....I think I did quite well at it...however the underlying trigger was actually fear....for my brother's safety....and a sense of impotence as there was nothing I could do to change the current outcome. I wasn't angry, I was reactive. and mostimes that's exactly what it is...motivated by a very different emotion underneath. I don't particularly fancy being gifted someone's anger, thankyou. |

Funny thing about anger. It's a biomedically controlled reaction, much like adrenalin-explosion. It's quick and it's irrepressible. It disspates only with time. Calming an angry person you can't. You must let him or her wait out until the chemical -- whatever it is -- flushes out or dissolves. It can serve two purposes, from an evolutionarily psychological perspective. It can egg on the angry person to act drastically, but that's no longer advantageous in our societies as a survival tool. You bashed someone's head in ten thousand years ago, you got your way. You do it now, you go to jail for a long time. The other purpose is educational. If a man or a woman makes others consistently angry at him or her with doing something, he or she will drop doing that something. Unfortunately anger is still present in humans, and it has lost nearly all of its survival advantages. For one thing, anger is not a pleasant feeling. For the other, if you do the "educational" thing and others don't join you in a concerted effort, you become the student for some "education". This is the peared-down effect of not being able to bash and gnash others in modern societies. So... don't be angry. Be happy. The wind will smile with you, and the ground will smell your feet. (As if it had some other choices.) |

If someone raped my daughter I would be angry and demand justice. The police and DA usually feel anger about it, too, and pursue justice on her behalf.

My X-husband could summon his 'anger' at will during an altercation, but it was extremely under his control.
Once when he was involved in a bar room argument with someone, he was geared up and ready to kick some butt.... someone asked me why I did not get up there and stop that... I told them .."The same reason I would never stand in front of a train about to smash a car..." When anger kicks in... people go blind. |

Actually at times it takes making one mad before they will get motivated enough to do what they need to do..... Like kick-starting a motor bike! ... gets the motor ruuuunnin' |

Ahem, anger is your personal bs detector, it tells you when something in a situation is wrong or against your beliefs/wishes, without it you wouldn't know what it's like to be glad:)

it sometimes takes anger to change something in your life or in yourself. could be a gift in that sense.

I saw this carved on a table. So, how can anger be a gift? It's a song title by a group called Rage Against the Machine. "Environment The environment exceeding on the level Of our unconciousness For example What does the billboard say Come and play, come and play Forget about the movement Anger is a gift" |
