Hello, all!
Has anyone read Charles Darwin's Origin of the Species? If you are suffering from insomnia, THIS is the book for you. For nowhere else in the history of literature does one so masterfully discuss ...turtles... Now, don't get me wrong. Turtles are good. They make great soup. But, to have page after page dedicated to Yertle the Turtle is a bit much even for me. So, what's your take on it. Is this the book that launched evolutionism. Is it the 19th Century equivalent of Scientology? Shiki |

actually, Lamarck is usually credited with "inventing" evolution, but Darwin gets the credit because his book is considered more "complete". I tried reading Origin of Species, but it was soooo boring it put me to sleep. I recommend it to insomniacs!

That's two for this book as a cure of insomniacs.
Evolutionists unite! Defend your Darwinian boytoy! Long live the turtles! |

It seems like the people who read this book take it on blind faith.
Anything that can't be explained is simply put on hold for "Some day we will know" And then they attack US for having the faith! It takes MORE faith to believe this BS! |

I think evolutionists have blind faith in a man who spent his life with turtles.

I read it. (Not by choice. It was required reading). Deadly, deadly, deadly dull. Even the cliffnotes would be hard to get through.

I agree with the dull, but did find it to be interesting for when it was put out, and what has since been found, comparatively speaking. I also enjoyed Dawkin's Ancestor's Tale, though I did read it in short increments over 6 months or so.
However, a lot of the scientific stuff does tend to be dull and a slower read, even for me. But then I find most biographies and especially autobiographies dull too. Too each their own, I suppose. |

I think evolutionists have blind faith in a man who spent his life with turtles. Blind faith if it is not allowed to be questioned becomes religion. |

"Blind faith if it is not allowed to be questioned becomes religion."
Some would say the same thing about evolutionism. |

"Blind faith if it is not allowed to be questioned becomes religion." Some would say the same thing about evolutionism. And if you notice evolution cannot be questioned. It's taken as "Fact" therefor it has become religion. |
|
|
|
"And if you notice evolution cannot be questioned."
This should be placed in the Jokes category. There is a LONG list of line of people who question evolution. I'm at the front of this line. It's taken as "Fact" By whom, exactly? There are people who believe that evolution actually happened. And they claim it is fact. However, there are many MORE people who do not believe this makes any sense. There are some who follow Christ and religion without questioning. But most of us (thankfully) do question. |

Evolution is a theory...theories are always questioned...its part of the scientific method...
but now we can look at the genetic code for evolutionary clues...science marches on... of course the book is boring...it was written a long time ago by a biology geek...probably with no social skills....but the overall observations and all the analysis since is fascinating In my opinion....something that sparks scientific inquiry is invaluable..... One more thing....
with todays technology Darwin would have made a documentary with pretty cinematography and music...experts explaining every point in terms easily understood by the masses... then our ADHD society would sit still for 90 minutes to be edu-tained... |

Brains and beauty - what a combination.

Isn't the best kind of lover an instigator and a man with good taste?

Isn't the best kind of lover an instigator and a man with good taste? Not to mention a man who tastes good.... we can continue this conversation in private.... Lili |
