Topic: How the Bible is like a drug... | |
---|---|
There are many inspiring and spiritually enlightening writings that can change our lives and help us along our personal spiritual journey towards living a life of love and goodness. And yet, some people are so addicted to the idea that The Bible is the only authority on God (and good) that they are sometimes intimidated or annoyed if truth is communicated elsewhere. I have read a lot of amazing books including the Bible and I have to say that when discussing things related to spirituality and God, I get the feeling that some people think their book (The Bible) is the one and only authority and they like to beat people over the head with it, quoting the verses and memorizing scripture. In the past I have come back to them with my own quotes and they have laughed and discounted my sources as if they have no value, proclaiming that the Bible is the word of God himself. If you could take away a lifetime of indoctrination into the Bible idea, and put everything on an even playing field, pitting one book against another seems rather silly. It is as if they are addicted to the Bible... |

I say that people are so blinded by religion that they can't see the truth. There are 7 churches that hold the seven seals and with these churches is a bounty of knowledge, each with their own beliefs. You have to look at the whole picture to see what religion is REALLY about. Then you have to look at the different Earth ages along with the Myans, Egyptions, etc. to see what they follow and put all of this together to form an opinion. Yes I agree that you can NOT base religion on 1 book.

drugs can hurt people when they are abused
they can also heal and cure when they are not the analogy that the bible is like a drug, is true as is the analogy that food is like a drug or television is like a drug or anything else that people have the option to use or misuse , to enjoy or to obsess over,,, I would say however, that if one wants to know about the GOD OF THE BIBLE, the BIBLE would be a better source than a thesis written by a college student for example there are indeed some books that are more reliable for certain TYPES of information than others,, thats not silly, thats reality Im not sure how books can be pitted against each other, but I do understand how people use their own experience and logic to DISCERN which sources to refer to for the information they seek |

I would say however, that if one wants to know about the GOD OF THE BIBLE, the BIBLE would be a better source than a thesis written by a college student for example
Are you implying that the God of the Bible is a separate and different God from other's God, or that there are many Gods? |

I am implying that people BELIEVE in many different types of deity, that they worship all kinds of things and people and Idols which could be considered their GOD but there is one GOD of the Bible, and the place to read about him is in the Bible |

I know people have often used that term, "The God of the Bible" but I'm not going to confine God to a book. God is not "of the Bible." God is for all people. People have different concepts of what God is.
The Bible does not own copyright to God or the idea of God and Christianity does not God either. What you are saying, (whether you realize it or not) is that any God (or concept of God) spoken about in other books is not the same God that you worship. You are also hinting that what other people worship (all kinds of things like idols) are not actually worshiping God; or that they are worshiping a false God. For the sake of being clear, I'm not talking about what people might worship, like idols or any other thing like that. I am using the term God as the indwelling spirit of all humans that is of God. I am talking about the source of all existence we refer to as The Father. When you say "the God of the Bible" you are referring to how that book portrays God, The Father, the source of our life. I realize that everyone believes in One God, and yet everyone claims that their book or their religion or concept is the one true God and that everyone else is wrong or worshiping a false God. God is Love and the original source of all existence no matter how anyone decides to worship or describe it.(him, the source, etc.) God does not confine his gift to one sect or one religion. God dwells in all people and they all feel the presence. This is what irritates me about Christians. No matter how nice or polite they are, they have a way of hinting that they own God and everyone else is worshiping idols or something else. I hope that everyone could realize that God is not that selfish. God dwells in all people who will acknowledge that presence with love, compassion, mercy and gratitude towards life. The Bible is a book written by men. The books chosen to be placed in the Bible were chosen by men who fought violently, often killing each other trying to decide what to put in it or leave out. That does not sound like love to me. |

What I want to say, I want to say without "attacking" or "insulting" Christians. This is what I want to say to Christians:
I am a spiritual and moral person. I believe in God in my own personal way. I have a personal relationship with that. I have faith in the laws that are in place in this universe. When you reject me because of my beliefs, and worse yet, when you accuse me of being in league with "the devil" because I use the tarot cards or because I don't go to your Christian churches, you are laying claim to ownership of GOD. When you black ball a business because they to not practice your religions, or when you judge a politician because he does not preach from the white house, you are laying claim to your ownership of God. You do not own God, Stop acting like you do. You reject good people and you hurt good people by your rejection of them. That is not what love or God or community is about. |

I have stated that I believe in the God of the Bible(in other words, the Bible is centered around the God that I believe in) If people believe in a God other than the one in the Bible they are not believing in the same God as me but many people do believe in the same God of the Bible even if they dont believe in the Bible(whether THEY know it or not) |

Jesus did not instruct us to reject people but we are to reject lies and sin. Christians should be able to seperate the two as Jesus could. I agree Presidents shouldnt preach the bible or any other religious book, but I do think they have every right to their consideration of 'right' and 'wrong' in how they conduct business, even if their right and wrong comes from their religious faith, unless it can be proven that those 'right' and 'wrong' standards are EXCLUSIVE to their religious faith(which I have yet seen anyone be able to do). I find it interesting that you should feel christians are 'rejecting' others by their choice in politician or stores, but feel offense at christians believing you are 'rejecting' God by practicing with Tarot Cards. Seems like interpretations are pretty personal on both sides and equally with/without cause. If your choices should go uncharged in their religious justness, why shouldnt the choice of christians go equally uncharged. Cant really have it both ways. I think christians should be left to choose where they will shop and who they will vote for for the same reasons you get to choose your own relationship with God and how you will live it(including the tarot cards). |

Yes, people should and do chose who they vote for and where they shop.
The reason for my statements is that I have been getting emails from some people (friends) that do nothing but slander and send propaganda against our President and it has nothing to do with actual political agenda but I have discovered their prejudice lies with the idea that because some people say he is not a Christian or that he does not preach Christianity from the white house that he is a godless atheist or a Muslim or some such thing. Also, I have seen our local churches black ball a business for religious and political reasons or just because they did not like the people's non-religious status. I have been accused of being a witch in league with evil or the devil, because I dared to put up a sign on my house that said "Tarot" and placed an add in the paper. I have been told that if I do not believe in the Christian God that I am considered to be either an atheist or a worshiper of false Gods or the devil. I'm just plain sick of it. I think they are all insane. |

I would be concerned with how and why they believe they know your business or your spiritual walk,,,,,,if they claim to, you should ask them if they are psychics and if that is not equally in league with the devil,,,,,that should shut them up |
