A friend in southern California. Has restored one that was used in the Pacific. It has a RR Merlin engine. I have sat in one. He does the air shows, He has won one air race. But he will not race one again. The racing puts to much strain on the plane. It was a plane that was designed and built in 4 months or less.

One great airplane. Racing takes a toll on the engine and the pilot but the airframe holds up well. My squadron with the CAF had access a F4U Corsair (and some other planes) so we were always debating which was the better fighter, the Corsair or the Mustang. Their specs were very similar.
