THANK PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR HIS DOMA DISASTER

A former editor at the National Review, Maggie Gallagher is co-author of “The Case for Marriage: Why Married People are Happier, Healthier, and Better Off Financially.”
By Maggie Gallagher – 15 mins ago
In refusing to defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act, President Obama has just made a huge mistake -- a telling mistake that demonstrates what a hard-left bubble he must now be in.
President Obama's nearly unprecedented decision, based on very weak legal logic, to refuse to defend DOMA will backfire, both tactically and politically.

If his platform was equitable rights for every american regardless of race sexual orientation, economic status etc. then I'm sure he is upholding what he has stated he would do...the turning point of electing him as president was supposed to bring the definition of change, a sign to the end of discrimination...by not defending DOMA...he is saying just that...each and every person who is a citizen of the united states will have rights equal to any other, perhaps no state should have to recognize marriage of any kind...well then it could trickle down to recognizing child support, say the states no longer have to recognize that, oh the of course there are wills or life insurance why should you recognize that from state to state either?
Because there have been cases where life partners, because the state did not recognize their relationship lost on last will and testament directives...a man lost his home, his property, and his life long partner after a horrible drawn out illness and when the man who passed became unconscious during his hospitalization, his partner wasn't even allowed in the hospital room, because he was neither family nor spouse...does that sound american?

personal affiliations or condemnations are irrelevant. This is politics..not moral righteousness....there is a reason why the symbol of justice is blindfolded, there is a reason why the statue of liberty holds a torch....its a shame when our personal disdain and lack of understanding causes us to loose sight of why we had those symbols in the first place

to sacrifice what they stood for, what they hopefully stand for.....is to say that all the lives sacrificed for the ideals of this country were for naught....for better or for worse our ideals begin with freedom, liberty... make it run across the board...the more you see the negatives of that philosophy but to question of restructure that would be to undermine the foundations of our country...

Actually the President (or his political advisors) made a great 'tactical' move...

They have effectively removed a possible bone of contention from the last leg of the 'race'...

by addressing it before the 'race starts...

His approval rating hav gotten pretty fair. I think he has a point or to to burn by doing the right thing.

The only 'approval' rating I worry about is the next vote...

all the rest of the 'polls' get a small slice of the population...

They will never show the 'real' curve of pubic opinion (only a snap shot of a segment 'influenced' by the wording of a question.

Only a nationwide vote can actually show the true 'public opinion'.

'Snap shots' of the public is about equivlent to getting a still of a foot race from the middle of the video... and attempting to ascertain the outcome by the single picture.

Let the supreme court decide whether its constitutional or not.

Did I miss the part in the oath of office that says, "do you solemnly swear to interpret the constitutionality of laws and usurp the power provided by the constitution to the SCOTUS when it's politically advantageous?"

FYI, the SCOTUS was never intended to be a panel of people who decide what laws mean. In fact, the SCOTUS cases were heard before a jury, and the jury had the option to nullify a court decision. (John Jay is on record as addressing the jury during his tenure) Sadly, this tradition has long been forgotten and now the SCOTUS is a tyrannical shadow of its former self.

careful of the source, I am for DOMA and the author is obviously a pretty big proponent as well , but this

'By pretending to defend DOMA, President Obama was blocking the door to the courthouse for marriage advocates.

This week, he just removed that obstacle. The U.S. House of Representatives will intervene to protect DOMA. Our chances of winning a great victory for marriage at the Supreme Court just shot way up'

kind of implies she wouldnt approve regardless of anything this president did,,,which is it

is he not defending it, or PRETENDING to defend it, ..?
