ok so here is a question. As metal and hard rock icons are aging we will soon lose Ozzy and the rest of Sabbath, Maiden isn't getting any younger, Motorhead (Lemmy), Priest, Cooper who will carry the torch when these guys are gone? I can see Godsmack being around for a while, Disturbed, AX7 and Amon Amarth but who else has the kind of charisma and talent that can carry them to that higher level? I don't know if we'll ever get anyone to carry the torch for the metal gods. They were in the right place at the right time. As a commercial entity, Metal doesn't really have that type of support anymore. It's very rare anymore that you hear metal on the radio or get airplay on cable. But there are a few bands/artists that have the potential. Whether or not they will be able to get the recognition and airplay to be truly successful is questionable. Hip-hop, the various boy bands, and female freak bands have the collective record companies' attention these days and that's what gets force-fed to the masses on the radio, in the newspapers and magazines, on TV, in commercials. If a metal band is playing at a large arena, you hardly see any advertisements for it. If it's the boy band or hip hop 'artist' it's everywhere. Ads on TV for the show. Billboards. Magazine ads. Radio announcements and contests every 20 minutes. At least that's the way it seems around here. I don't really buy into that. During the 80's I very rarely heard Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Crue, Ratt on the radio. I hear them more today than I did then. |

I recently listened to Faith No More's version of "War Pigs" and it rocked my socks off! Yes, I like it better than the original (blasphemy, I know, but there it is!)

Children of Bodom is good. Alexi Laiho has quite the sound. Haven't really been able to get into the new CD (Relentless Reckless Forever). I've bought it and gave it a quick listen or two, but haven't really had the time to sit down and really listen.

I enjoy a good metal song, as long as melody is involved, old megadeath which im seeing monday, some pantara, love system of a down, metal can be a useful tool also heh. Rock genre music now days is terrible, i feel sorry for todays generation, i was born in very early 80, youngest of kids, brother was a huge metal head so i grew up on the 80's metal, unique in each sound from band to band, music now days sounds all the same, and seems everyone's remaking songs from the 80's, personally my favorite era of music was the mid to late 90's rock full of great one hit wonder songs and such a wide variety of sounds, metal may no longer be mainstream but is forever will live through fans like us. Long live Metal, and long live Rock, Being a huge Pink Floyd fan i just really enjoy a great guitar and beautiful melody, as well as the hard hits of the drums, David Gilmour never has gotten the full credit he is due as a guitar God, but thats off subject, always looking for new music to discover so if anyone has some bands to throw my way id greatly appreciate it

Just like to add that SLAYER SUCKS! It's not metal is banging endless noise with riffs that are just thrown together and played sloppily.
Did people forget about pantera, or crowbar or Down? Megadeth maybe? What about Danzig, I'm pretty sure Danzig was considered metal at one point. Or the Melvins! Anyway. Slayer sucks. :) |

Everyone likes different styles and i am in no way critizing your opinion. By the way, DOWN is an amazing band. Whoever isnt on it, should be!I see them in 2 wks! 1.
