Senate Democrats remained united on Wednesday in killing a Republican effort to repeal the health care bill signed into law last March.

As expected, no Democrats voted against a procedural motion that effectively defeated a GOP amendment -- sponsored by Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and tacked on to an unrelated aviation bill -- to repeal the health legislation.

All Republicans voted together in favor of the McConnell-sponsored amendment. The vote was 47-51.

The House passed the repeal measure last month.

But the defeat of the equivalent legislation in the Senate means that the ultimate fate of the health care bill will likely not be settled until the Supreme Court hears an expected constitutional challenge to the law -- particularly its mandate that most Americans buy insurance.

The high court would likely hear the case in its next term, which begins in October of 2011, although some would like to see the matter addressed sooner. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., urged the court today to expedite the ruling.

"The vote to repeal health care is largely symbolic, because the Supreme Court is going to have to be the one to decide this matter,” Nelson said in a statement. “We ought to do the right thing and ask the High Court to rule quickly so we don’t keep arguing over this for the next several years.”

It's Feb. 3, 2011, and this is all the Republicans have done.
Waste congress's time with this BS.

They've done nothing else.
Not even presenting a HC bill of their own. Let alone do anything to help create jobs. Just wasting time and tax-payers money.

I'll bet they've pocketed some serious Insurance lobbyist cash in their private bank accounts though.

I mean surely they didn't kill Obama's new lobbying regulations for you and me.

Americans don't want health-care repeal
01/18/2011

It is simply not true that "the American people" want President Obama's health-care reform law repealed. House Republicans should be aware that while conservative activists may support the action they're about to take, surveys indicate that the general public clearly does not.

A new Post poll shows that 50 percent of those surveyed oppose the "Obamacare" law, while 45 percent support it. But these numbers are misleading, since The Post reports that "a quarter of those who oppose the health-care law say the legislation is faulty because it did not go far enough, not because it pushed change too far."

In other words, one-fourth of the law's opponents believe it should have been more ambitious and far-reaching, not less so. These are people who would have liked to see single-payer universal care, or tighter regulation of insurance companies, or less restrictive language on abortion rights -- hardly positions that John Boehner and Eric Cantor would endorse. By counting them among opponents of the law, Republicans are essentially arguing that Michael Moore is on their side.

Subtracting these dyed-in-the-wool progressives from the "anti-" column leaves just 37.5 percent opposed to the health-care law. Putting the Moore crowd in the "pro-" column, where ideologically it belongs, means that 57.5 percent of Americans support what Republicans deride as a "big government takeover of health care."

So the next time somebody tries to tell you how unpopular "Obamacare" is, remember one thing: It isn't.

These numbers have remained the same since the final bill was voted on by the Senate.

How anyone could want Obamacare is beyond me! Expecting government to fix healthcare is just crazy and ignorant of history! When will people learn? I really think it will take complete bankruptcy for people to realize there is only one answer to lifes problems! Self reliance and hard work! There is no free lunch, maybe a lunch paid for by other but not free! Government needs to know their role, and offering provisions of any kind without work is a bad plan! No matter the problem government will never be the answer because the idealology is flawed! It will always be flawed because power corrupts! This has been proven 100% of the time! A utopia will always exsist in the minds of the ignorant because dreaming is all they are capable of. When forced to give actual results the idealist always comes up short and will become a realist. The human spirit can be measured and reality dictates that when a person works and gives true effort they demand results and results occur. When idealology is the measuring stick the rule of science is removed and results become an after thought! Nature's laws are cruel and may not be ideal but create results! No idea can change this only prolong the inevadible! Government healthcare at best is only a temp fix and will never last because America is the leader in world economics not a hanger on like other socialist systems! A government healthcare in America would represent the third largest economy in the world! we are not talking Great britan or canada here, we are talking numbers that exceed Any government budget other than China! Obamacare is all idealology and will not work and no matter your opinion that is fact and either today we realize that or in our future we will, but i gurantee you one thing it will be scrapped because it's ignorance and it is only a matter of when we will scrap it!

Democrats voted united...

Cause they were told that next campaign fund doleout would be based upon their vote...

so for money to fight the next election they caved.

Won't be long before some of them start complaining about campaign finance...

It all comes out in the wash.

Wikkileaks isn't the only way to 'leak' incriminating information...

You know what they say.
Birds of the same feather flock together.
Just because all your friends think alike doesn't mean they are thinking with the majority.

LMAO

You kill me sometimes.

Maybe they stood united because 2/3 of Independents favor strengthening the bill and 3/4 of Democrats favor it.

Oh yes!

You've been wrong all the other times you responded TO ME this way. Do you really think you'll be right this time?

Do you really need me to prove this to you or will you just take my word for it?

Do you really need me to prove this to you or will you just take my word for it?

On the contrary...

You did not accept my rightness.

Does not mean I was wrong.

PROOF never actually comes.

Each time you have popped up a so called 'proof' I have managed to find the 'funding' source for that proof and show it to be skewed.

and no one has yet answered my question...

Namely...

Show me where in the legislation commonly called Obamacare is the Insurance problem addressed...
