I dont think eight year olds can legally change their name, usually thats something that requires an ADULTS decision, so perhaps those inquiring minds should ask his EX stepfather , mr sotero.(My guess would be it was the same reason my father changed my brothers name to his growing up, because he was the one raising them(despite biology) and because it created less confusion amongst siblings(or potential siblings in baraks case)
