It's three miles to the river
That would carry me away, And two miles to the dusty street That I saw you on today. It's four miles to my lonely room Where I will hide my face, And about half a mile to the downtown bar That I ran from in disgrace. Lord, how long have I got to keep on running, Seven hours, seven days or seven years? All I know is, since you've been gone I feel like I'm drowning in a river, Drowning in a river of tears. Drowning in a river. Feel like I'm drowning, Drowning in a river. In three more days, I'll leave this town And disappear without a trace. A year from now, maybe settle down Where no one knows my face. I wish that I could hold you One more time to ease the pain, But my time's run out and I got to go, Got to run away again. Still I catch myself thinking, One day I'll find my way back here. You'll save me from drowning, Drowning in a river, Drowning in a river of tears. Drowning in a river. Feels like I'm drowning, Drowning in the river. Lord, how long must this go on? Drowning in a river, Drowning in a river of tears. |

Gotta love Meryl Haggard
The first time we met is a favorite memory of mine They say time changes all it pertains to But your memory is stronger than time I guess everything does change Except what you choose to recall There's a million good daydreams to dream on But Baby, you are my favorite memory of all Like the night we made love in the hallway Slept all night long on the floor Like the winter we spent on Lake Shasta alone Closer than ever before I remember than London vacation It was you that made the whole thing a ball There's a million good times I could dwell on But Baby, you are my favorite memory of all The first time we met is a favorite memory of mine They say time changes all it pertains to But your memory is stronger than time I guess everything does change Except what you choose to recall There's a million good daydreams to dream on But Baby, you are my favorite memory of all |

I call her up when I got a dime I say, "Hello, baby" She says, "Ain't you cool" I say, "Do you remember when "And would you like to get together again" She says, "I'll see you after school |

Out on the road today, I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice Inside my head said Don't look back. You can never look back |

And you're back out on the street.
And you're tryin' to remember. How will you start it over? You don't know what became. You don't care much for a stranger's touch, but you can't hold your man. |
