Topic: Arizona shooting victim arrested after threat | |

PHOENIX – One of the Arizona shooting victims was arrested Saturday and then taken for a psychiatric evaluation after authorities said he took a picture of a tea party leader at televised town hall meeting and yelled: "you're dead."
James Eric Fuller, 63, objected to something Trent Humphries said during the forum taped for a special edition of ABC's "This Week" with Christiane Amanpour, Pima County sheriff's spokesman Jason Ogan said. Fuller was in the front row and apparently became upset when Humphries suggested that any conversations about gun control should be delayed until all the dead were buried, KGUN-TV in Tucson reported. Fuller was arrested on misdemeanor disorderly conduct and threat charges, Ogan said. While Fuller was being escorted out, deputies decided he needed a mental health evaluation and he was taken to a hospital, where he remained Saturday evening. The hospital will determine when he will be released, Ogan said. Fuller was one of 19 people shot at a Safeway store Jan. 8. Six people died and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords remains in critical condition with a bullet wound to the head. Fuller described the shootings as "a bad crime drama" in an interview on CBS' "The Early Show." He said he felt a bullet that hit his knee but didn't know he had also been struck in the back. Fuller, a naval air veteran, drove himself to Northwest Hospital after being shot, according to the Arizona Daily Star. He was later taken to University Medical Center where he was released two days later. The show was videotaped at St. Odilia's Catholic Church in Tucson. Victims, witnesses, emergency responders and some of those hailed as heroes after the shooting discussed the tragedy. The special will air Sunday on "This Week" with Christiane Amanpour. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/01/15/arizona-shooting-victim-arrested-threat/# ![]() |

So are they going to start arresting politicians and media celebrities for their remarks. I've heard Glenn Beck and others, call for assassinations of politicians.
Are they going to start arresting them and holding them responsible? |

Hell if it's Obama it should be the same. No one should be above the law. If this is to be the law all should be held accountable. Don't you agree? This kinda puts free speech in jeopardy though. esp when they arrest a citizen for it. Words are just words unless you act on them. Right? |

When people in a leadership position do it it is a bad example of leadership. They above anyone else should know better. It is their job to influence and exhibit leadership through words and actions.
When a regular citizen does it it is far less inciting of violence and doesn't reach near as many people who might actually act on it. Most of the time it is just words, blowing off steam, but our leaders and media personalities should know better and be held accountable. I don't care who they are or who they represent. Don't you agree with that opinion? |

Consider this a talk between rational friends.

Leaders and media personalities make a living off words. They know how to use them to influence their constituents and viewers.
When they do it they know dang well what they are doing. They have been doing it for years. If they did not they would never be successful at their jobs. If they do, then they should not have their job. They above all citizens should be held accountable. |

Words of anger. I doubt they influenced many people. Without you showing me the video I would never have heard them. When I was younger, back in the day, an American could call a cop a pig or flip them off without repercussions. Try that today and you'll be thrown in jail. Do you think I have not witnessed the loss of freedoms in this country in my time. Of course back then our politicians and media personalities did not make the threats or use the uncivil words I've seen lately. They were more professional then and if it takes holding them legally accountable to get them to stop today, then so be it. They know better and they understand how their words influence their constituents and viewers, which makes it intentional. It's premeditated and dangerous. If you are going to represent people or have your words heard by millions you have the training and education to know better. Many normal citizens don't even finish High School. How many years of education do you think that Black Panther has? |

Media Personalities are professionals.
What is their profession? Besides this is a rational discussion between friends, and this citizen is a victim in a recent mass shooting where professional politicians may have caused him being shot. Whether you agree with that or not, whether he has made the proper assumption, can't you understand how he might be angry and say things he really has no intentions of acting out? Esp at the a Tea Party Leader and FOX News personalities. Why should he be arrested and they not be held accountable? Obviously their past reckless words have had an influence. If only on a few! |

not the time to be acting stupid in Arizona right now...lol Especially if your the victim of a shooting! Actually they should have had the shooter evaluated and they going to take any chances that a victim couldn't be suffering from PTSD or PTSS after being shot.....I say kudos to Pima County Sherriffs for learning a valuable lesson.......evaluation is a temporary time out of a persons life another person dead is forever.................JMO |
