many cultures that place boys above girls have such practices, in the case of the poverty stricken the parents generally just leave the new-born girl-child out to die..is that any better???

this case was an unusual role reversal.

OP, of course, I suppose its better then having the boys, and then having more children until they get their girl. Is it fair to the boys to have been born not really wanted because they were of the wrong sex?

Goodness knows, I see plenty of girls in families, and multiple births repeatedly to get that almighty boy child.

I was one of those whose mom had children till she got a girl, but she still loves ALL her children and Im thankful she was mom material(regardless of the childs gender)

Oh, I'm not saying that 95% of the parents don't love all of their children, even when they're wanting one of the opposite sex, but it certainly comes across that way. They can't be happy with what they have, basically.

How about the idea of replacing a child that's died?????

I have lost 2 children and although i miss them deeply i could never get pregnant again in order to replace the children i have lost. Its beyond my comprehension for why they want do that.

I think that's worse Scratcy. I was extremely disappointed in the Travoltas for this, too. And I think its horrid when people clone their dogs for this reason as well.

Selfishness wins again.
