Topic: Anyone know about phobias? | |
---|---|
I am looking for someone who knows about phobias because I have a phobia
that I don't know the name of. I am scared to death of basements and crawlspaces, and I will not go into them. I am not claustrophobic and I don't have a problem with enclosed spaces. But for some reason, I am scared to death of house basements. |

This is my best guess at your fear:
Achluophobia, Lygophobia, Nyctophobia, Scotophobia - Fear of darkness |
could also be this:
Cenophobia - Fear of empty rooms. |
Then theres also this one:
Kenophobia - Fear of voids or empty spaces |
lol I even found one about my faith lol:
Wiccaphobia - Fear of witches and witchcraft |
Anyways here is the site I found a list at:

i'm glad you found that scorpius because i looked them up and was only
getting general phobias. i did find an old ghost story bout something that actually happened to me. |

I don't like crawlspaces, either. I'm convinced that some prior
resident buried a body in them, and I don't want to be the one to find it... |

Well I am just the reverse. I love crawl spaces, basements and caves. Something about being under ground or nearly(crawl spaces). I have commonly been under house doing plumbing work and needed to wait after doing one process before doing another and have dozed off many times. Most crawl spaces are warm and moist in winter and cool and damp in summer. Just right for a nap, LOL. |

I know exactly how you feel pancelt.. I used to have a paralyzing fear
of basements. What got me over it believe it or not, was the previous house I owned. It was over 100 yrs old when I bought it and the basement was something else(eek). But we spruced it up..painting everything nice and fresh, but that's not what did it. My house was also haunted, but the spirits were friendly. Everyone said the house always felt warm and inviting and I think the ghosts that still lived there helped make it feel that way. Especially cuz the previous owners over the last couple of decades had let the house go. I think the ghosts were happy to see ppl fixing it up and taking care of it again. It must have been a gorgeous house in its day. Anyway, everytime I was in the basement I never thot about it because I knew that if anything WAS down there, it was prolly friendly lol. So as strange as it may seem, it was a ghost or ghosts that helped me get over my fear of basements lol. It was either that or the sudden traumatic memory of my sister jumping out of a dark place in our basement when I was about 3 yrs old and scaring the living hell outta me(she was 15). Maybe something happened to you in a basement when you were little, or something you saw freaked the shit outta you. In any event, if you can figure out what caused it, half the battle is won..gl with your phobia and I hope you can get rid of it, cuz I really do know how you feel |

Im not afraid of the dark or empty places. It is just basements and
crawlspaces. |

I don't like basements either. I have gone in them before, but no more than once. I hate basements, unless they have been refinished...lol... I don't think of it as a phobia, I just think of it as me not liking basements. |

I don't like basements at all, even if they have been refinished. I am
uncomfortable in a furnace room, but I will still go in them if I have to, but I will never go into a basement on my own. |

when I was still a very young teenager, my mom got real sick and had to
go to the hospital for a coupla weeks..these friends of ours took me in(cuz my mom was a single mom at the time) but the only spare room was in the basement. It was very nicely finished, with a game room and TV and the whole bit... I still slept with a gun under my pillow lol |
